Default Have you been Audited by the IRS?

I have, but only by phone to provide a few docs and explanations. Never a field audit, where they come knocking on your door.

The dems say the 87,000 new IRS folks are to audit the billionaires and not those making under $400K/year

With about 735 Billionaires in the US now and 87,000 new IRS people getting hired, thats around 118 new IRS people to audit each billionaire. While Im sure an audit of any of them might take multiple people, 118 sounds unbelievable.

Pretty much guaranteed they will be turned loose against the middle class, especially small business owners. The billionaires can afford to hire a small army of lawyers and accountants to protect them, but not the small business owners or entrepreneurs. Already have seen the IRS politicize their operation for years. Whats the chance it becomes used as a form of political oppression?

That line right there should be a red flag. Most billionaires are making way more then 400K a year. It's like two statements in one, in my mind. Why not just say you're going to audit everyone that makes over 400K? It's like saying that you're only going to tax the rich, but then don't quantify who is "rich".
So yes I agree. The middle class will be under the micro-scope too, without a doubt.
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

Maybe they are using a different definition of billionaire?

Forbes most likely definition: A person whose wealth amounts to at least a billion dollars, pounds, or the equivalent in other currency.

The IRS new definition? "A person whose wealth amounts to at least a billion cents."

A lot more people to audit then!

Here's a map of where the majority of Audits are currently happening. Look familiar? (with the exception of the west coast)

I definitely have. Spent over a year taking it up the chain, believing I'm right, and at the end of the day, I still owed.

100% without a doubt they are going to focus on the middle class.

My Dad once gave an IRS agent a speeding ticket. He knew because the guy threatened "I'm an IRS agent".

He was audited for YEARS after that.

No- I am not really sure what they would find. Our account prepares our taxes off all of the 3rd party paperwork we receive from employers, the mortgage company, child care providers, etc. The "subjective" part of the return is extremely limited.
The vagrants of Boulder welcome you...
