I bet! Most hunters are shooting minute of pie-plate on a good day. I have walked the target line at the range during "hunter sight-in" those poor animals...

Default Your chance to shoot an elk at the Great Sand Dunes NP. Are you a good enough shot?

    I signed up.

Couples things off the top of my head to note about the application.

    1. Qualification requires a separate trip from volunteering, only option is the one range to qualify.
    2. Minimum commitment of 2 days likely during the week separate from qualification.
    3. Unlimited photo release.
    4. Proof of Vaccination or agreement to wear mask in vehicles/indoors.
    5. Majority of area requires lead free ammo.

Must provide exact details or rifle, ammo, and range equipment. Can only use what you list on application when qualifying. Can only shoot with what you qualify. Inspection of equipment required.

I was literally laughing out loud doing the app thinking of the people on this site and likely responses. I also expect my application to be rejected for hand loads since they can't verify the manufacturer as required.

Talking to someone that participated in RMNP. This will not require hiking. Drive until you find elk, drive up to them, any animal that does not run you can shoot and throw in back. It is not hunting, just shooting. I am guessing the CPW agents do not have the man power, desire, or legality to make sure the meat is used without help.

Edit: Lead free was the challenging part for me. The rifles I use lead free in are generally not well suited for 6 round timed strings. All my long range oriented guns shoot lead based bullets.

A whole lot of complaining to be able to shoot elk without a license. Just saying.

was someone complaining? Looks like to me someone layed out the rules as he learned of them, nothing more, nothing less.
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

Oh, I don't know... "I'm disappointed the applications are closed and don't think this was managed well."

"It's a shame that the majority of the applications are probably filled up with people who can't qual."

"you might have a bunch of yahoos signing up that can't shoot reliably, and the ones that can shoot might be weirdos or have a heart attack from the hiking."

Yeah, they don’t want the elk you are going to shoot to get COVID

Guess it depends who passes the test. Lots of photos of anything other than the old white man.

Check your email if you previously signed up, looks like they are taking a new approach and need people to sign up for range slots, first come, first serve.

Edit: This is for people that have already applied and the email has a unique applicant code.
