No, I don't think Obama will be on any of our currency now or in the future (I believe that Jimmy Carter has a better chance).

The point is that we really don't need to continue to change our currency simply for the sake of changing our currency. Personally, I can't stand the changes that have been made to either the paper or the coin currency over the last several years.

Our currency is distinctive. Anyone who has ever seen it knows immediately that it is AMERICAN currency, not Euro, Chinese, Mexican, or Canadian. Perhaps we should quit trying to blend in with teh rest of the world and consider maintaining some of our own unique heritage.

That's not the reason for changing it, security is. It's far too easy to counterfeit US currency. There are a huge variety of considerations when it comes to bother paper currency and coin. For example, if the notes are of different sizes, then a blind person can tell how much cash they're handling.

I like the new Australian plastic money. Doesn't get ruined in the washing machine, and the transparent windows with holograms haven't (yet) been counterfeited (so they say...)

I love how the whole country has to change so that .03% can be more comfy.

Better solution: When we catch foreign governments printing our money we use the neutron bomb on them!

Having a living person on our money would be bad luck.

    Bills are for dead presidents.

EDIT: SOmeone is bound to say "but but franklin was never president and he's on the 100!" I say don't mess with tradition. If it must be a president then Reagan can take is place.

This reminds me of that US astronaut pen vs. USSR pencil thing, blind people just have their money folded in different angles and shapes (by the bank or a friend I suppose) which tells them which bill is which. Solutions to problems that don't exist aren't solutions.

The whole country has to change because, as you say, both foreign governments and rank amateurs can make passable counterfeits. So when you've got to make changes to a system, you might as well improve it to work better for the 1.3 million (0.3%) blind Americans.

As for setting off a huge EMP blast over a foreign power, the problem is proving it. We suspect DPRK has the ability to print perfect Franklins, but we haven't been able to prove it. Besides, they're already living in the stone age.
