We may have to use nuclear weapons of all nations just to fend off an alien extraterrestrial invasion. The governments keep most this data from the public to stop mass panicking. The films "Independence Day" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" are just public relations experiments to gauge response from the masses.
Just the other day a Chinese airport was closed due to a UFO hovering around it. The Chinese military did not fire upon it and no one was injured. I would hate to think if we killed the leader of an alien species from another planet. The consequences would be dire.
There are a few elite military officers that respond to these incursions. But usually policy dictates that there is no hostile action taken unless national security is threatened.
Personally, I am more worried about an asteroid impact such as the one in Arizona, called the Barringer crater, near Winslow. An impact like that happening today would be devastating to us in Colorado. Asteroid defense is considered to be a really low priority by the Congress and the Pentagon. NASA's budget has gotten some increases for asteroid defense.
I foresee a day in the future when it will be public knowledge as to what exactly are UFO's and the life forms that operate them. Until then we shall keep our arms ready.
