I know, you think a place so filled with criminals, human rights abusers, and the like would not be tolerated as the meeting place of such a dignified group of righteous individuals...

Russia urged the U.S. to abolish the death penalty. Cuba and Iran called on Washington to close Guantanamo prison and investigate alleged torture by its troops abroad. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, told the U.S. it must better promote religious tolerance. Mexico complained that racial profiling had become a common practice in some U.S. states.
so wait a second here, let me make sure I Get this right.

    • Russia Cuba and Iran, whom frequently kill or imprison their citizens for political differences, wants us to abolishes the death penalty and close GITMO.
    • Indonesia, where you can be killed for any reason at all (religious, reacial, ethnic), wants religious tolerance.
    • Mexico, where there are NO Immigration rights at all, and just about as few human rights, wants us to allow immigration.

-- All these treaties and conventions should be “self-executing,” meaning that no subsequent U.S. government action should be required for them to go into effect—regardless of the U.S. constitutional separation of powers, and the separation of powers between federal and state governments
Touch the Constitution, try to go around it, and we go to war. I Do NOT mean laser guided politically correct shit either Bub.

    Are you kidding me?
The repression paper was authored by the National Conference of Black Lawyers and the Malcolm X Center for Self Determination, neither of which are listed among USHRN’s member organizations.
if I Submitted a document from the National conference of White Lawyers and the Ku Klux Klan Center for self Determination (No such thing) I Would be run out as a racist. Why do we tolerate this hypocrisy?

Small message from me to ALL of them.

Because we aspire to by this, "America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere"

Because we know that even a shitty political compromise beats sending our kids off to die in foreign lands.

Because we sought to spread our ideals of peace and prosperity with the world.

I'm terribly disappointed that we've strayed so far of course. Seems I can't go a day without finding a thread that starts off with "level the building". Lethal force: It's a last resort. Everyone here should be particularly clear on that fact.

Yes, other country will try and pick the splinter out of our eye. You cannot expect us to criticize other countries (Iran, China, Russia) and not have them respond. I much prefer Ahmejinidad coming here and talking smack than having to send more US troops into Iran. There's some slim chance the change will come to Iran, even if we have to simply wait for younger generations to come to power.

It seems there was a time when other countries aspired to be what we were; and we're slowly becoming a cautionary tale. Participation in the U.N. is one of the (relatively small number of) things I disagree with Ron Paul about.

I understand the sentiments... but when does the shining light on a hill for all to see become just another part of the slum because obvisouly rhetoric does nothing but "compromise" and we keep turning more and more to the left? Cause it sure seems we are heading that way.

What ever happened to, “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”

I guess nowadays its, "Far better to compromise, to pussyfoot around, even though it never accomplishes anything..."

Also, I'm not sure how familiar you are with history but once upon a time there was something like the UN called the League of Nations. They shared your views on compromise. It didn't work out.

A glorious triumph need not be slaughtering your enemies. It's far better to find an amicable agreement. I don't care if you call it "pussyfoot", I prefer to think of it as treating others as I would like to be treated.

Of course I'm familiar with the League of Nations, it's the precursor to the U.N. Formed after WWI with the goal of preventing war, it failed to prevent the rise of Hitler and WWII. It did that because it had no no bite. The U.N. at least has some capability to enforce trade sanctions, and call upon member states to enact war. Indeed, the invasion of Iraq was done under U.N. auspices, otherwise it would have been illegal.

Now, I'm not saying the UN should have rights over a sovereign nation. I don't think anyone really is suggesting that. Even the tightest of working groups (e.g. Euro Zone) maintain the absolute right of sovereignity for each nation state. There is, however, an obvious roll for a body like the U.N. to try and facilitate peace between sovereign nations. And to imply that there's no use for the UN is to suggest there's no point to diplomacy.

My two cents. I never knew how much of a libtard I was until I came here, apparently.
