I did not inquire as to whom performed this alteration nor what they charged.

No, seriously, if someone who claims to be a gunsmith really did the first job on that, his name should definitely be put out there for everyone to know. Really!
The guy is a thief and a fraud--why wouldn't we put his name out, attached to the job he did?
Now if the owner of the gun really did the job himself, well...OK we don't need to know that!

I asked the owner who did the work a couple of times. All he said is it was done by someone who has done work for him in the past and has done decent work.
It definitely made me wonder what one considers "decent".
I did not pry further than that as it would have been rude and I am not in the habit of offending a customer.
    Is the customer always right?
No, but they are always the customer.

Well, I'd say "decent" is one of those wiggle words that means a little something different for everyone. I've seen some interesting hack jobs, but that was one of the worst. I vote that he did it himself, as I cannot imagine anyone who would call himself a smith doing that. (Doesn't mean they wouldn't, I just can't imagine it!) 'Cause damn sure if someone handed me one of my guns looking like that after I'd hired them to do work on it, I'd have used it to try to remove their tonsils through their rectum. Good job on the fix.

Don't want to ZOMBIE this thread, but I just showed this to a young newly trained gunsmith to iterate a point. Needless to say he was impressed. BP knows him, so I waned to pass along how simple pic's like this effect the mentoring process. God knows I try daily.
