    Default Long range shooting help

I'm looking for advice and possible training options to get started in long range shooting.

I'll be using my Remington 700 30-06 and my Browning BLR 308, that currently has no scope, which brings up another area I'd appreciate some advice, what is a good scope for the Browning?

Thanks in advance for all the great advice!

First of all, you need to tell us what kind of shooting you will be doing with the Browning, and how much you want to spend on a scope. The general consensus is to spend as much as you can on your scope, so your price range is essential.

I would budget at least a grand for a scope and mounts. Go with a distance range finding reticle of some sort and repeatable adjustable knobs. Anything less than about a grand on a scope is questionable glass, repeatability, and strength. You get what you pay for in scopes and guns, cry once and be happy afterwards without stress or repurchase. $2 or $3 grand for the scope ands mounts is better.

If this freaks you out, go to the sniper match at pueblo and check out the various scopes and the prices they cost. You soon see the truth.

Sightron SIII is the minimum I would recommend. Nightforce, vortex, s and b, premier, all way better glass and scopes.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Ok, maybe I'm in over my head already. I'm thinking long range is 500 yards, or at least for me it is. I only have about $300 for a scope. I'm not looking to get into match shooting, I just want to become proficient at that range for the odd coyote I may get a shot at.

That is why we were asking. There are several in the $300 range that are good scopes. Best bang for the buck right now is the Bushnell Elite 3200, on clearance right now!!

    Here's a product review on it http://www.snipercentral.com/bushtact.htm

Also check out the Super Sniper line, good scope for that price range.

I have a wilson combat 6.8 recon,,been trying a little long range shooting, I consider it long range since it is an AR platform,, but I went cheap and bought a leupold 3x9x40,,,, scope sucks after 200+ yards trying to hit paper bulls eye. not enough power. but a 3x9x40 isn't a sniper scope by any means. you can blow the center clean out of a shoot-n-see at a 100-150 yards all day long with it, but what I want is to be able to read the small upc code on the corner of the target at 300 yards,,lol...

A Super Sniper fixed 10x from SWFA is in the $300 range and pretty solid for what you pay.

I have a Millett TRS-1 on my 308. Really like it. Gets good reviews.

I could not agree more on the bushnell elite series, I have 4 of them, and are great glass for the money. The one in the natchezss link is a steal too! I 'm bummed I don't have the money to purchase that right now
