Idiot, she had it coming. If you do not understand the culture you should not be there.
WE treat journalists as sacrosanct, as do most of the western nations. She mistakenly applied that viewpoint in a culture that does not embrace that ideal. Known risk ignored. I hope she has a full recovery, and learns from her mistake.
She is on inside edition this morning.
shock, sympathy, outrage
yadda yadda yadda.
My favorite is the people calling in to radio shows being "outraged" that her network didn't pony up for security for her. Security against a raging mob? dumb dumb dumb.
"There are no finger prints under water."
she had security
On the program I was listening to, the host was arguing with the guest about whether she had "security," or just a "crew." Either way, the idea is near worthless. I laughed at the caller who painted the picture that there exists some magically "security" that can just surround people and keep them safe from anything.
This was right after they interviewed the guy who wrote the pro-gun article for the Times. I wanted to call in and ask the host and guest if they thought that perhaps the reporter would have fared better if she had a Glock 19 with an "extended capacity" magazine.
"There are no finger prints under water."
To me it's not much different than watching the clips of TV weathermen/women getting out there in the tornado, barely able to stand, wind whipping their hair and their high-tech rain gear. Those "journalists" put themselves out there for the "story". If you run thru enough fires (like Lara Logan seems to like to do), eventually you're gonna get burned. From the news reports, she seems to have taken it like a man.
