People have been SUPER helpful on here lately, huh...

I think that thing looks pretty cool, and when you have kids or other people in the house you 100% don't want to get access to your guns, not a bad solution. I wouldn't mind picking one of those up.

This is what I was thinking.
I have 1 AR in the house, I am not stupid enough to rely on it as my primary home/self defense weapon. I have a Ruger and an SA-XD for that.
I also have a 2 year old that is fascinated with my AR. I have a cable lock in it, but I am always looking to increase security until I can justify an entire gun safe for 1 Gun.
I will teach him how to safely handle a firearm someday, but I figure Potty training and riding a tricycle should probably come first.

Don't let them get you down Byte..

In Your situation, I'd say a locking gun case on a high shelf (for the time being.) would work. Or even the little the cheap stack-on "gun safe".

I would prefer this device over the cable lock you are using now.

Sorry if I offended, but I just don't see the point. There's NFW my AR, or any of my guns, would ever be accessible to anybody else, so that I'd need to lock the magwell. Anybody handling my AR will have me standing in front of them.

If the rifle can't be locked up, at least lock up the ammo and magazines? I understand about your son, but I'd think the cable lock through the magwell and out the receiver opening would suffice to secure it from him. He's more likely to get hurt dropping it on himself. Big, heavy rifle for a little boy. I'm sure you do all you can to keep it out of his reach anyway.
