Anyone who feels their child needs to have this card and present it depresses me. Not for the parent or the child (while tragic) but for the state of things right now that makes someone feel this is needed.

Doesn't change the fact you're making assertions (such as "forever marred") that you can't substantiate.

    More melodrama.

Is there a problem? Yes. Is anything we say here going to change it? No.

This card was created because of an 11 year old boy getting arrested because of a drawing.
    http://www.kdvr.com/news/kdvr-arvada...,7099823.story

Apparently the school didn't make a big deal of it but cops came at night and the kid's mom told the boy something like, " go ahead and tell the police the truth honey"..... Next thing you know they are handcuffing an 11 year old. The mother should have told them to come back with a warrant if they want to talk to her kid.

I didn't make the card and it could probably be worded better. I do think it will come in handy though.

When I was in 8th grade I got called down to the dean's office only to find a detective there investigating some school bus windows getting shot out. Detective went on to say that they had witnesses and informants that say I did it along with my brother and friend and how I need to just come out and admit it. When you are about 13 years old it is pretty intimidating to dispute a police detective. There was no notifying my parents or anything like that. Luckily I held my ground and they ended up finding the real kids that did it.

They also interrogated my friend and my brother who was in 6th grade at the time.

Everybody wants to believe that all of the police and teachers are good decent people, but unfortunetley that is not true.

Your illustration goes far beyond problems with the public education system, though, and strikes me as a little melodramatic.
There are plenty of examples of cops and school's taking things to the extreme.

Here are some from the police.

I always side with Bailey no matter what. People who live outside of Denver metro are just inherently smarter than the rest of us.

My son was being bothered by another child in third grade I believe, my son finally blurted out loud "stop f**king bothering me" loud enough that many people heard it. Parents were called, suspended from school for a day. Child and Parent had a talking too by school administrators. Nothing happened to the kid that was causing the problems to begin with.

We have 12-15 year old kids on FELONY sex offense probation at work for grab ass on a girl. Routine stuff when I was a kid, today who knows what you're going to get.

I seriously don't like what has happened to Jacob for the air soft incident, and this other kid for the stick figures. I cannot imagine having one of my kids destroyed by the legal system that we're seeing here in Jeffco lately, especially if they haul my kid into questioning without myself present or legal representation.

I have a meeting with a person Friday morning that will have great insight into this, I'll see what they have to say about it.

Yeah, my reputation seems to have gone down the drain but seriously, sometimes you have to think about logic and common sense (although, not that common)

Agree 100%. If I could only post what my 15 year old son is going through with the Jeffco legal system... I'm really considering moving back to Park County when this current problem is dealt with.

Schools have taken this "no tolerance" policy on everything, all it has done is made the bullies sneaky and the victims helpless. Natural order of things is:

    person bullies someone else
that person finally has enough and snaps
bully gets crap beat out of them

    now its

person bullies someone while other people aren't watching
victim defends themselves physically or verbally
    victim gets expelled

    what a load of crap
