Doesn't sound like a very informed lady, you should educate her. Mexico has had very tight gun laws that make ours seem very liberal, but, even with that, I believe there is still crime there... Isreal I believe someone already mentioned is a place where if you are not X-military or police, you can pretty much kiss any type of weapon ownership good bye. I think there is still crime there also... Also, you can bring up China where guns are also highly regulated, still lots of crime. Huh... However you can also bring up Switzerland where every male that can actively serve in their military is required, yes I said required to have a fully automatic rifle and a pistol also I think in their home in case they are called for duty. Not kidding on that, look it up. Crime is so low, that they don't keep statistics of it. Here is a quick article on it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/1566715.stm

Britain's violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed. Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world's most dangerous countries.

It is my opinion that any classroom that does not advocate healthy debate of topics is simply indoctrination.

That's interesting. My Speech teacher said the violence in the US is because of the media. Our news focuses only on the bad and violent things that happen, instead of good things.

And below that, the US has ~400 per 100k. Awesome.
