Default Shutdown = SHTF for COS?

I was just thinking... if our federal government shuts down for any extended length of time, I think it would reap havoc on Colorado Springs and the surrounding area. There are four military installations in this city. Could you imagine the level of economic collapse in our area if all the people from those installations lost their income? Am I just being pessimistic or does anybody else see the possibility of at least a minor SHTF scenario?

It happened in 1995/96 and CoS was fine. Society isn't going to fall apart just because the federal govt shuts down for a few days. This is just political posturing, nothing more.

There will not be any big spending by the Military since there mid-month paycheck got cut in half.A couple of my solders that live off post asked if anyone had claimed dibs on my camper. Most claimed that it was going to be real tight.

I'm in the army here at ft. Carson as well. Our company commander told us this afternoon that this month was half pay, but after that we just aren't getting paid, unless a budget or stopgap is agreed upon. I dont know if that is accurate, and I don't expect this mess to last all the way until the 15th, but if it were to do so, that is closer to the situation I am trying to describe.

I had this idea that our fine representatives could have an opportunity here...

it goes something like this- call a press conference, and publicly say that you cannot in good conscience accept your pay this month while members of the military may do without- and you are hereby turning over your salary for the month of April to assist families in the military that need assistance.

yes, it's a symbolic measure... not going to make a huge difference, except to those few families that it could help...

yeah, I don't see it happening either, but that's what a person of honor would do.

Yeah, talk about a respectable leader. Too bad you're right about it never happening.

A person of honor would not be playing politics with someone else's livelihood.

agreed, but it's not up to 1 person- a single person in congress can't fix this... it's a stand-off of sorts... saw a bimbo on CNN that was making a speech at a protest, saying that someone needed to take a stand...

and I thought to myself, both sides ARE taking a stand- that's why they haven't come to an agreement. (that's about when I decided she was a bimbo)
