Dry film lube? is this a good idea for a AR-15?

I was thinking about using dry film lube in my AR. Smith and Wesson dry film lube to be exact. does anyone have experience using this stuff in their AR?

I don't use it, but have had quite the in-depth with a couple guys at work who are all about it. It works VERY well for lubricating, but it's messy.

Basically what it was made for are combat situations where regular oil attracts dirt and such. If you're going to be out in dusty or dirty conditions then it would be good for you, but just for general shooting I don't really see the point.

If thats the case it work work great for me where all my shooting is out in dusty conditions. If I am shooting inside its because the weather is really crappy and I am really bored.

I'm not convinced at all that dry lube is any better in dusty envornments in comparison to a liquid lube. What I am convinced about is cleaning and basic oil works every time, and a quart of synthetic motor oil works just as good as the fancy smanchy super lube everyone seems to try to sell these days at a quarter the cost.

Put it this way... if I had some, I'd use it for sure, but I won't go out of my way to get buy some. I have a few gallons of automatic transmission fluid, various motor oils, etc in the garage at all times and use ATF as my standard lube.

In our climate, especially for guys like us that do most or all of our shooting outdoors, a dry lube is better as it won't trap as much dirt, dust, unburned powder, residue, and other stuff our guns are subjected to. All of my guns are shooters and whenever I take them out they come home with dirt and dust on/in them, but I'm pretty OCD about cleaning my guns and clean them before and after each outing so I don't worry about it doing much harm. Then again, if your guns are out in the rain or otherwise subjected to water, a heavy oil will hold its place better than a dry lube that might be washed out easier.

I use dry lube on the inside of my magazines, both Magpul and Colt. They operate as smooth as glass afterward.

Ive used it on my bolt and carrier before and it works great.

Its essentially like graphite.

Although, I will bring up a note of caution. This stuff is VERY messy. It gets on everything, and sticks to everything.(thats what its supposed to do)
Once you get it on your hands I would go and wash them as soon as you can.
There is many a grayish-black streak on the walls from unknowingly having this stuff on my hands.

but for all intensive purposes as a lubricant, Its great.

I came to the same conclusion and have been using Mobil 1 on my guns.
