Years ago when I was a Marine Reservist I was working on a construction job in Grand Junction. The older gentleman who's house we were working on asked me about my high and tight. We got to talking over the next couple of days and as we were cleaning up the job and getting ready to leave he gave me his set of Eagle, Globe and Anchors he had as a WWII Marine. He fought on Tarawa and earned a battlefield commission.

I wore them on my dress greens until I got out and still have them to this day.

I was a groomsmen in a buddies wedding last year. For all his groomsmen he (with his dads help) made us all knives. Damascus steel, caribou or moose antler grips and cut and sewn leather sheaths. I will work on getting a pic up, Beautiful knife. All of us got one and they were all different to better "fit" the new owner.

A few years ago when I graduated tech school I was talking to on of my NCO's husband about his former job as a AF sniper, I thanked him for his time and shook his hand and in his palm handed me a coin and said, " hold onto this, it will win you alot of drinks"

I didn't realize exactly what it was at the time but turned out to be a CentCom coin given to him by General Petraeus

lol mine is lame in comparison.

so I was up near buckley visiting a buddy of mine. at the time he was going to dental school.

that day happened to be my birthday, when he found out he said "wait here a sec"

went into his closet and brought out an oral b electric toothbrush. being an orthodontist in training he got stuff like that all the time.

I had wanted to get one for a while, but never did because of the price. (It was the super expensive one, like over $100)

    use it to this day.

    cool, random, useful, thoughtful.

another birthday when I was expecting socks and a bag of m&m's my Dad gave me a samurai sword. that was pretty neat.

Anything my son made when he was a little boy and it was for "Daddy". Still have a lot of them even now.
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

I was given an "infection" once, but I didn't think it was a very cool or thoughtful gift.....

Out of the blue my step-mother gave me my fathers gold USMC ring he wore for as long as I can remember...
Wasn't expecting that until... well... you know.
Not really random... but still cool.

One birthday my friends all pitched in and got me two real-deal Kobe steaks. One was for me and the other was for them to share. I learned that the American wagu doesn't hold a candle to it.

Another year right after I got my first lower I was given a loaded 30 round mag.

Both were complete surprises when I wasn't expecting anything.

The best thing I ever got unexpectedly came from my pastor. He gave me a Ruger Super Blackhawk with an 8.5 in barrel. Great shooting gun. I now use it in CAS.
