My MacBook's lasted me 4 years without any issues (that weren't a direct result of my stupidity).

MS just released info on their new "Windows 8" (probably not going to be called that, but that's the "internal name" for now).

They are trying to make something that is very tablet PC friendly and looks like the same type of OS you find on many smart phones ~ using tiles and touch screen, etc.).

As an old time computer geek, I prefer an OS with command line interface versus click on the pretty pictures icon cr@p. But, for full compatibility with most of the rest of the world I also realize that certain things will never change for the better and MS will keep producing junk that they want us to embrace.

Even after all of these years of having MS Windows, most folks still struggle with many of the basics. I shouldn't complain too loudly - it is keeping me employed and makes me look like some sort of genius hero to 100+ people on a daily basis.

for most windows > Linux Converts I introduce them using Ubuntu.

I find it makes the transition easier. Familiarity breeds comfort and confidence.

I tried Unbuntu for a couple weeks... couldn't find any reason to keep it. The OS X interface just felt better to me.

I've got the same opinion of Windows that the original poster does. Can't stand it! I gave some serious thought to going back to a Mac (went to a PC in the 1990s when I had ballistic software that I needed to run and it was not at all Mac friendly). My issue with a Mac is the company as a whole. It's my understanding that Al Gore is even on the board there. But then Bill Gates is a screeching lib as well.
