Equality. When a cop makes a Mistake its one thing, when a cop betrays the trust of the people and the oath, They need to go to jail/prison like any other citizen.

I don't agree with your assessment. It may be more accurate with Denver PD, but not for the majority of the agencies here in Colorado. I know of a number of officers fired and charged with crimes over their actions, both on AND off duty. Officers should be held to a higher standard and I think we can both agree to that.

For most officers, if they are arrested, their career is done. No other agency is going to hire them once they are terminated from their agency (Denver PD is the exception to this, hence my list). If you are arrested for something done outside of your employment, your employer is most likely not going to fire you and it isn't going to stop your employment somewhere else (offense dependent, of course).

I would add another bullet to my list:

too many are heading that way, its like a virus... and this ass-hat, unfortunately is the proof.

Too often we hear of officers in whatever department in the news... I get it, shit happens. But then we start getting the news people saying stuff like "He has a long history of <Insert Abuse Here>. IA records show he was put on <whatever administrative action> last year for a similar crime."

I promise you this... if I caused an accident and the PD knew it, and knew where I was.. I sure as shit wouldn't be free to go beat up old men at the Costco.

And I do agree it is a damned shame that shitbags that abuse the public trust have helped to create the rift between the Citizenry and the LEO Community in general.

Not true. He was criminally charged by the agency where the violation occured and his agency suspended him. The DA will ultimately decide what happens to him and his agency will most likely terminate him, given the aggression issue.

And, I have been cleaning house here in Colorado. I've gotten a number of cops charged and terminated, or had them wisely see the error of their actions and see the need for them to find other employment in some other field. I am proud of my profession and I do not want those who tarnish the badge to bring everyone down.

This is the yeoman's work of a concerned citizenry. It may sound contrite and naive, but the government is "We the People." If you don't like it, then work for change. It may be hard to believe, but there are citizens who worked for and want the change the President promised. If you are not one of those citizens then work for a different kind of change.

If you see something that is wrong, say something or do something. Just ranting about it will not produce anything but a negative attitude and discontent. Speak up loudly and often enough to the elected officials, media, and civil servants, and someone may just listen. Then again, if you want real change in any organization, DPD, state legislature, Congress, etc... then work your way inside the belly of the beast and make whatever changes you can from within. It is a slow and often frustrating process. You will have company though. There are good people everywhere, and I like to think we out number the bad people

I grew up with him. my sister and his are best friends. We went to high school together played football together etc etc. He has always been that size. No roids just big and worked out a lot. Always strong and aggressive.

Always ignorant comments made by people that don't know any different. I haven't talked to his about it to find out what really happened.

Judges tend to shy away from the "ass raping" sentence. It is often overturned as a violation of the 8th Amendment.

I'm glad someone on this board knows him. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I have spoken to and dealt with the victim several times while getting gas at that Costco. There are always more than one side to every story. At the moment, Hughes' case is being tried on the internet and through the local media. Ultimately his case will be decided by either a judge, jury of his peers or settled through plea agreement.

Whatever the outcome of the judicial action for Hughes, he probably does not have a future in law enforcement, but that would just be my opinion.
