I think they should lose their salary, but not as a source of actually making a difference in the budget. It's a rounding error. They're cutting the James Webb telescope (the successor to Hubble) for budget reasons. That's like worrying about the scraped knuckle when you've lost several other limbs.
It's all in Defense, SocSec, Medicare, and Debt interest. Anything else is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
If they'd started ten years ago they could have done an orderly draw down in the military, retired people early, made decisions on weapons procurement earlier. Instead it's going to be government standard hack jobs.
