Should also put the standard disclaimer. *I am not responsible if you turn your phone into a paper weight*

As it sits I am currently running cyanogenmod 7 and love it. This week anyways. Pulled a quadrant score of 2500 when I first installed it.

More geekspeak...what's worse is that it actually makes sense to me...

I've got a Droid X now and I'm just waiting for it to start pulling that crap. I'm going to have to think long and hard about staying with a smartphone or getting a feature phone for the decreased complication and cost.

I do love my phone though.

    Its called Planned Obsolescence.

I used to work with a guy that was a CAD designer. Many years ago he worked for a company that manufactured railroad train cars. One of his major projects was to do computer design studies and testing on the design of their heavy flatbed cars so design them to where they would fall apart at a specific mileage. The warranty ended 500 miles before this specific mileage point.

Thing is their customers knew the train cars were designed this way (they didn't care because it got the cost down ... and I guess in the railroad industry its all about $X per mile for Y miles and they scrap the cars at Y miles regardless of condition anyway ... probably due to government safety rules).

I expect this happens in a lot more industries.

I retired from a major RR after 34 years of service. Although I had NEVER heard of that being done, I wouldn't doubt it too much - especially if it kept the cost of the new equipment way down.
Of course there is still a major safety issue involved if that really did occur. IMHO

and yes it does bear worth repeating:
I Do not know of any manufacturer that will not void your warranty if you alter the phone outside of their "acceptable use."

acceptable use is normally acceptable applications and software or firmware patches.

Thanks Byte!!! Unfortunately, the geek talk actually made sense to me before the translation - maybe I need to invest in a pocket protector to keep my phone in and some black glasse with tape on the bridge.

I'm not really sure about the bow tie though!

    Yep,
My RAZR is so old that I need to charge it everyday if I make more than 2-3 calls on it.
