So they're gonna shut down the ATF to stem the flow of illegal weapons to Mexico?

Jackasses...how about they enforce the laws already on the books? There's already numerous statutes that cover this subject.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that bill just describe a straw purchase?

More evidence of just how moronic our government truly is.

So basically this law says that it shall be illegal to engage in activity that is already illegal?

Ok, so what is the angle?

The only thing I can think is that section (b) might put anyone that runs a forum with ads or a classifieds site that allows firearms to be charged if a criminal buys a gun via their site.

But even then one would have to "knowingly" do so ... which again is already a crime.

Frankly I suspect its one of those bills put forward by gun banners just to keep their gun banning buddies at Brady and VPC quiet.

That's exactly what it is, reinforcement of unconstitutional laws that are already on the books. WTF are we paying these people for.

My take on this is, they are attempting to codify at the federal level a 'straw purchase', which has already been codified at the state level. This would allow the ATF and other federal agents to charge into federal court, this particular offense.

I don't have time to review the federal statutes to see if this is a redundant federal statute right now.

I'll have to dig into it, but I'm pretty sure all of this falls under 39 USC 922(g) in the sections having to do with prohibited persons.
