    Default Astigmatisms, lazik, and shooting.

Okay, I have an astigmatisms in both eyes. I have been thinking about lazik for awhile now. I've been told that when you have eyes like mine you have to get one fixed for distance, and one for near. My question, is which would i do what to. Im right eye dominant, I shoot right handed as strong side for handgun and long gun. I'm wondering how iron sights would be affected if i get my right eye fixed for distance. Has anyone else had the problems i do with my eyes and gotten lazik, and how did it affect your shooting?

Well, I had astigmatisim and had lasik about 12 years ago.

don't know how it was done in regards to each eye, but I have had no problems seeing or shooting since.

I'm left eye dominant, right handed. but since developing optic neuritis in the left eye from MS I do fine with my right.

lasik is a bloody miracle and worth every penny, even if you have to finance it.

I had PRK done due to thin corneas, as soon as I turned 21 (30 now). Astigmatism and a prescription of -8.5. I'm 20/20 now with both eyes but the right is only 20/30 so have to wear glasses to be able to use the iron sights properly, they're very slight prescription in the right eye only. They just weren't able to get a full 20/20 on me.

The whole one eye near and one eye distant is so you won't need reading glasses in the future if it was me I'd just tell them you don't care about reading glasses and correct both the same and wear reading glasses later.

Watch-out for the lowest bidder!!! If you are going to do lasik or laser, do a lot of research on the doctor and the correct procedure for your eyes and condition specifically. I had a friend who had it done by some jerk-off and has worse problems now. Another friend had it done by a real pro and is happy and is 20/15! The later had been wearing glasses since he was a teenager.

I also had mine done at the spivak vision center. Yes, you can get it done for 499 an eye somewhere, I'll take reputation over savings when it comes to my sight. I was -6.5 with astigmatism in both eyes. Now I'm 20/15 in one and 20/20 in the other. Best money I have ever spent on anything.

I had laser PRK done in 1998 and it had to be "re-touched" in 2005, but I've been very happy with my decision to do it. I'm just now noticing that I have to push things farther away to read them, so my age is beginning to affect my vision. I've been told they will be able to fix that as well in the coming years.
