+1 on this. It's one of those "just because its legal to do so doesn't necessarily mean its wise to do so" things.
I think you have a bigger advantage if John Q Public doesn't know you are carrying, not to mention is it really promoting 2A rights in a positive light?
Freaking out soccer moms and getting hard stares from LE really is not the image we need to project.

You guys that disagree with open carry need to go to www.opencarry.org and do some research.
It is a good thing for people to see good people with their firearms. When people see me carrying a firearm while I buy grocieries with my three year old says a ton for legal gun owners. Like a said, it helps society as a whole for them to experience first hand, good guys carrying guns.

Any right that you do not use, is a right they will be trying to take away.

I might add, I have been open carryng for years now, without one incident. I have also open carried in several states. Just saying, if you open carry right, it's a good thing. I have not been hasseled by LEO's at all.

I never said that I "disagree" with open carry- I just said I would not do it in any metro area and I think an open carrier is opening him or herself up to trouble. If you want to do it, go for it, I'll be watching you too if I see you in a store or elsewhere. I simply prefer to keep a lower profile. A few months ago, an acquaintance saw my 4Runner on the road and followed me into a parking lot. He got out and we started talking and he mentioned that he could tell my vehicle a mile away because of the gun stickers and such in the back window. When I got home- I removed them all- thus sanitizing my Toyota.

Bert, if it were easy to preserve our rights, then everyone would do it all the time and it would never be an issue. Unfortunately, it is not easy, and someone still has to do it. So if it's not for you (not you Bert, but you in general), then that's fine, but don't give people like CO Luckydog a hard time about it, because he's doing the stuff that benefits you while you avoid the issue. *Also, I'm not saying that anyone in this thread is specifically giving Co Luckydog a hard time.*

If you ride a red motorcycle, I saw you open carrying the other day on E 88th Ave.

I'm torn on this. On one hand, OCing should be something that doesn't spook the sheep, and being sheep the best way to accomplish that is to desensitize them through conditioning... seeing good people with guns doing good, normal things.
On the other hand, I don't want to put myself at the top of the list if I'm in a gas station and some asshat decides to rob the place. Previous incidents and common sense have proven that authority figures... security guards and such... or people that pose a threat are usually targeted first in bank robberies and similar incidents. I'd rather be able to slip under the radar and if I feel I should act, to be able to do so unexpectedly and without any indication or warning to the bad guy.

I do open carry when I walk my dog at night or when I'm in the mountains (not just camping, but if I drive through the mountains and stop at a gas station you might see me OCing). However, 95% of the time, I'm CCing.

    Im there with Mcntar.

Not spooking the sheep and drawing attention to yourself is important, especially when you look like I do.

Another is not being on top of the list or a "Target" if something was to go down. I would prefer noboday know about me carrying.
