I'm exactly the same way. I love reading the forum, and I visit at least once or twice a day, but I don't post much. I think that if there is a post limit enabled it should be lower so that you don't get a bunch of jerks bumping up old stuff and so that people like me who don't post much can still buy and sell things.

I just really prefer interacting face to face, and between the 3 forums I frequent most (here being one of them), I probably have 200 posts total.

I've met some really great people through the for sale forum, but if there were a high post count limit enabled I probably couldn't bring myself to blather mindlessly up to 150 posts just to sell a rifle or a pistol. I would just feel like a jerk posting on threads with an ulterior motive in mind. I hate saying things I don't mean, and being forced to write "yeah, that movie wuz funny llol!!1!" for the chance to post a rifle in the for sale section would really turn me away from the forum.

Anyway, that's how I feel about that. I think that people should just get less leeway on the FS forum. Either follow the rules or lose your privilege to sell things online.

Include a price (firm or OBO), include pictures, say what your trade interests are, and most importantly include a good description! I hate it when I see ads where the only description is "glock 17. 2 mags. PM for pics." If you're trying to sell something, try and sell it! Accurately describe the item for sale and talk about what accessories, mags, etc. come with it. Then, be polite with PMs and when replying to questions, and once you've done that, you've made a successful FS post.

I would propose that one of the web gurus here design and online "test" of some sort

one where a page pops up, has each one the sale rules, you have to click "I Agree" and the circle next to the rule.

    Next rule

    rinse and repeat

this is stored in the profile as a permission and we get to post.

    otherwise not.

surely someone here can finger this out

You know they're still not going to read it- they'll just click "I Agree"

how about a pop quiz, where actual answers are required?

or just public ridicule? e.g. the low-ball offers, etc (not very friendly, but thin-skinned individuals will eventually have problems on this board anyway)

The best solution I've seen to this problem is just to create a template in a sticky, then just required the template be used and filled out for every thread. Delete threads that don't use the template. You don't even need to pussy foot around and hold people's hands. If they want to sell here, they'll figure it out very quickly. Especially when every for sale thread looks the same.

Well, I've been arguing with myself about replying to this thread because as you an see I do not post a lot (for a couple of reasons I've shared with others when I've done FTF deals). I'll just put this out in the FWIW department. I have no life so I find my way to this forum probably a couple of times a day and I find most of you here quite entertaining and knowledgeable.

Most of my deals have been made off other sites, although I recently completed one here. I have to admit I've been a closet lurker on this board and had a history of perusing this forum long before I decided to "officially join" and did so primarily because I found it to be interesting and entertaining (some of you guys have quite the sense of humor). I only want to toss out a couple of opinions.

As one who has made a few deals, I have to say I agree with the OP that posting a price (or at least a trade value) certainly helps. I also agree that pictures are a HUGE help because I live far enough from most sellers that I'd like to know it is something I really want and I plan on keeping my word if I'm making the drive for it. If I am really interested, not having these things will not keep me from a PM to ask for them, but it really would be much easier on everyone if folks stick to the rules (although I have to admit when I signed up I forgot to include my location).

Lastly, I hope if I contact anyone on here about a possible deal I won't be viewed as some sort of nutball flake because I don't post much (I'm much better "live"). I typically will send several PMs and make a phone call or two (and maybe even a little other research) in order to make sure we don't have two nutball flakes meeting for a deal.

So, I've taken up a lot of space to simply state it is certainly better for everyone to just follow the rules and don't hate me because I don't post much. Thanks for indulging my windy reply.
