    Default Infinity Firearms

So has anyone here got any experience with these products? A search of the site produced not one mention.

I'm thinking the 2011 models are the bomb. Love the hammers

Strayer Voight Inc ... makes very nice and VERY EXPENSIVE pistols.

Started by a guy that helped found STI.

Basically once upon a time there was Tripp Research, owned by master gun builder Virgil Tripp. He partnered up with Sandy Strayer and and Strayer Tripp Inc was born. They built poly frame, modular, double stack 1911s.

Then Strayer left STI and joined up with pro shooter Michael Voigt. Both companies share the patent on what STI calls the 2011 frame.

In general SVI guns are prettier than STI guns and when they work they work just as well, but [hearsay] if something goes wrong you get customer service runarounds that make Taurus look good whereas Virgil Tripp stands behind his guns like Snap-on stands by their tools.[/hearsay]

You want a top notch competition gun you buy an STI. You have some extra cash for a cooler looking top notch competition gun you buy an SVI.

Years ago SVI made a titanium CCW 1911 called the Tiki ... I've always wanted one (hmm ... and it looks like they may still make them ... but IIRC they were over 4 grand).

At any rate, "Infinity" used to be the model name, not the name for the entire company so if you could search for SVI you might find some mentions of them here (of course the search function doesn't allow 3 letter words so )

I've got one, its a good piece, I think they are little more pricey than an STI and I don't think they run any different. Although mine will cycle any length ammo in .40 which some STI's I've seen don't seem to like factory length .40, I would guess SV might have the same problem, there's just not as many around here. I would like to see one of their billet grips but its not worth $500 to me.

Now I've got visions of Kate Beckinsale, leather clad, running around with gigantic handguns destroying all kinds of nasty things...

I'm going to need some alone time.

SVI pistols are wonderfull, fantastic and exquisitely fashioned. Works of art really. They are also amongst the most expensive 2011's you can buy, the lead times are 14-16 months, customer service is slow and all of the SVI parts are now propietary... including the mag to frame fit.

If you want a truly custom pistol with all of the same attention to detail, workmanship and artistic merrit. Call Camerons Custom. http://cameronscustomguns.com/

Camerons builds thier guns from the ground up on STI components. The advantages being, reduced cost, better aftermarket parts availability, vastly supperior customer service, and about 6 weeks lead time. The base components from STI are every bit the same material quality as SVI and once hand fit a custom STI and SVI are the same base quality. Performance quality then falls upon the builder, not on the brand. Just as a comparison however. I have two very close shooting buddies who just bought new custom built pistols. One from SVI and the other a custom STI from Camerons. Both pistols were custom spec'd by the shooter in every way, with tons of personal requests from both guys. The SVI order is going on 14 months, the Cameron's order was fulfilled in 6 weeks. The price for the SVI was twice that of the Camerons. Not talking several hundred more.... several thousand. Don't get me wrong, the SVI pistol that comes in will be absolutely beautifull, but so is the Camerons and they will function equally well. Only you can be the judge of what a fully custom pistol is worth, but after seeing pistols from SVI, Cheely, McLearn (also one of my favorites), Dawson, Brazos, Millenium, Camerons and many others, my next custom pistol will most likely come from Camerons Custom. Give em a call.

PS I know this reads like I work for them or something. I don't and don't even currently own any Camerons products. I'm saving up for one though.

SVI stuff is nice, but overpriced. I have a couple factory SVI guns, but they are not worth what SVI charges. They do spend a ton of $$$ on R&D and a lot of their stuff is cutting edge for 1911s.

Just order an STI frame and have a gunsmith build it up.

Here's my Cameron's that I picked up last week. Built to my specs. They are very easy to work with; excellent communication.

Black 4140 frame and slide with black stainless parts. Dude, that's steezy. Looks like a piece of new moon, midnight.
