I sure didn't know the sh!t storm I had walked into that's for sure. Seems like there is a lot of bad blood flowing right now.

The reason I found out about the filter is, I was trying to post a funny picture, and the address has sh!te in it. And the filter killed the link to the picture because it edited the SH!T and left the E. So no picture and no usable link to go see the picture.

My overall issue is why not let us be adult use the occasional curse word and if an individual gets stupid with it deal with them one on one. To me it is very much like the idiot in Arizona shooting the Congresswoman and the powers that be wanting to punish the entire gun owning community for it. Let level heads prevail. Turn off the filter. Don't be the over-reactionary who punishes the whole because of the few. I have read more than one thread here and those tend to be people we all tend to despise.

I know the next thing to be said is: "don't blame us blame the over curser" I 'll say this; there is culpability on both sides. Overreaction on both sides. Get level headed (everybody), be adults, and be responsible.

When we first turned off the filter many years ago, not many people noticed.

These past few months the F bombs and everything else were all over the place. Site staff asked everyone to kinda chill out a bit but it did not work. It was growing old and we were getting more than a few complaints about the language. So, the switch got flipped back on.

As a member, I reallly hadn't noticed a language issue, nor did I get the cool it down memo. Thus the surprise. My previous statement still stands.

The tongue in cheek was okay, but it was progressing to much more. If we could all stop trying to speak like a bunch of pre-pubescent teenage boys in the sandlot, sneaking our first cigarette and acting all macho in front of the other boys, things might just lighten up again.
Over the last couple weeks, I have noticed more of this, then any profane language... The powers that be, the long term members, mods, etc, litteraly calling names and talking **** to the very members they are trying to "protect from cuss words"......

    Just saying...

Sorry folks I'm in full support of the filter. I've mentioned before I let my kids read some of these posts. If any of you ever meet my daughters, and I really hope you do they are great people as most of you are, I would like you to speak to them here the same way you would in person. If in person you choose to use profanity while talking to them, trust me, the conversation will be short.

If you want to come hang out in my shop with me thats cool I was taught by some of the best sailors around and my language skills degrade as fast as my beer disappears.

Ginsue and all the moderators a big Thank You.

How old are your kids? I mean, if they're above the age of thirteen trust me, they know all these words already. I can understand you not wanting your children to say those things (at least, when you're around) but I don't see how preventing them from ever having read some magic four letter words will matter. They need to learn the time and place for such things, and as long as it isn't being done just for the purpose of being explicit, e.g. used to express real anger/frustration etc, I don't think they'll be materially harmed by it.

My two cents, but I'm no parent

    Hoosier,

I have no doubt about my daughters knowledge or my grandmothers for that matter. I just don't believe that you should use those words when speaking to either of them. When you post on a public board such as this you have a responsibility as the poster to keep in mind everyone who may read your words. As a parent I have no problems not allowing them to read or view this site, however, their is great wisdom and knowledge here and I would rather they get an opportunity to see it.

I appreciate your concern and understanding.

As I have stated in other places, if you feel like censoring the "F" < word, so be it. However, the rest are on every channel there is. Maybe not Nickelodeon, but I don't expect this site to be anything like a childs channel.
