Holy cow! A wish list without anything on it!? My wish list will never have a question mark and there will always be something I can't afford right at the top.

    exactly!!!!

I think I want a menacing black weapon that uses dangerous high-capacity clips, loaded with airplane destroying, cop-killer bullets, can pass through metal detectors, and is fitted with a shoulder thing that goes up....

You could do all that with a sharp stick..... for free.

Seriously Gunner, I have owned and shot tons of different firearms. Each time I think I've found some new wiz-bang piece of go sick-em man candy, I am invariably and ultimately disappointed once the wow factor has worn off. Ultimately, I find that 1911 single stacks and S&W revolvers have stood the test of time for a reason. Smith revolvers are so much better than the other brands, it is my personal opinion that if Smith stopped producing wheel guns, they would all but die off permenently. There are only a few other hand guns I have found to be really worth the effort to get to know them. S&W M&P and G19/23, G34/35. I'm not even a G fan, but any man would be a fool not to pony up some time to learn thier way around one of the most popular pistols of all time. Problem is, I never woke up in the morning and said "man I can't wait to shoot my glock". There just isn't anything magical about them. They work and work well, but so does the hammer on my tool belt. I look forward to shooting my 1911s and my Smith revolvers every single day. I mention this because it sounds as if you are eating cuz your bored. My question to you is, what do you dream about shooting? It doesn't matter what floats my boat, only what floats yours. What comes to mind when you're at work or sitting in church? Now take that platform and do a special build. Do something fun and unique to really make it yours. It can be a 1911, or a black powder revolver. It can be the restoration of your grandfathers service model 36 of a national match M1a. Me... I have two projects in mind. The restoration of my departed grandfathers Remington 721 30-06 rifle and a single stack build from a Wilson prefit frame, slide and barrel kit, in the white. There are only two guns I ever sold and still regret. The rest have all passed on to some one else without an after thought. Now, I only have the ones I really enjoy shooting and some family heirlooms (like the 1936 98k my grandfather brought back from Germany in 1945). Give it some time and really think about what would truly endear that firearm to you forever. You'll end up with something far more value than the raw value of the gun. A little touchy, feely, but a possible way to go.

    I vote 1911 for auto.

If you want a wheel gun get a S&W .460, you can shoot .45lc, 454 casul, and .460 out of it. Love mine, blast to shoot (literally), and it's one of those that tends to get a lot of attention. My original plan for it was to hunt whitetail down south, haven't looked into the handgun hunting laws in CO but it's an option with it.

This made me laugh. lol. well said.

edit: I forgot to be helpful - I say find buddies who have interesting guns, shoot them, and then decide which one you'd like to own.

For anyone who cares these are my picks.

Wheel gun: S&W for quality and reliability.
.45 Auto: 1911 Has stood the test of time, durable, reliable, and can be customized to anyway you want, and I don't even like 1911s (yeah I said it)
High Cap auto: Glock, Reliable, Part abundant, Customizable, Also the Easiest Gun in the World (IMHO) to completely strip and do your own "work" to.

Here are my next three revolver choices:

    Smith model 642 - 2"/.38 - 15 oz.
    Smith model 63 - 3"/.22 - 26 oz. (girlfriend to learn on)

    Currently own a Smith model 67 reolver - 4"/.38 - 36 ounces
