Water the holy sh*t out of it, if it's just burned it may be okay. No go on the grass seed right now, the fertilizer will just burn it up & kill it.
I love Scott's, but your dad must have put ALOT on to burn it that bad. Hopefully it'll come back but in this heat on top of it all it'll be a challange.

Correct, no seed right now, wait until the fertilizer is washed away or diluted down if you are going to try seeding. Sorry, should have been more clear.

4x the directed amount of Scott's? What did he do, buy a pallet of that stuff? It's so 'watered down' by other things I'm amazed it did any damage. That stuff is WAY overpriced and you get very little actual fertilizer for your buying dollar. He needs to water and lots of it at this point. Water during the day too and allow it to dry overnight so you don't promote fungus growth.

dead is dead. you could put sod in right now and it would be just fine. then, read the directions and use Richlawn's Pro-Rich, which is made in Colorado.

His house is on a well and always waters the hell out of it and he has been watering more lately because of this. Yea he used a whole bottle on the front and a bottle on the rear. His yard is maybe 2k sq ft total and 2 bottles would cover 10k per directions. His yard has always been very green and nice so hes all upset now. I will tell him to water more earlier in the evening.

Those labels are pretty optimistic in their coverage claims and I would say that you could safely increase the dosage 2x and be fine. 4x may be borderline but when you add in the current heat, wind & utter lack of precipitation that would all be a recipe for what you describe. Fortunately, I think additional water may just help it pull through. Don't have him water in the evening. I would water three times a day to keep it cool/moist and it should come around. Again, don't water in the evening as it will just create a whole new set of problems he'll have to contend with.

Yeah, that does tend to make things more difficult. Best bet is to water several times once he's off work then. Moving it from area to area every little while then back to the beginning and through a few times will ensure the best possible absorption with the least amount of runoff. This method is a PITA w/o an automatic irrigation system but if you choose to water manually and want a nice yard I'm not telling anyone anything they don't already know.

I understand that. Only on the weekends can I water in the morning. Oh well, It has not done anything strange watering in the evening for the last 15 years so I guess I am ok. My only saving grace is that our base water runs about $60 for 4000 gal. Increasing it to 9000 only raises the bill $20. I do keep it long. Pic about an hour ago.

We have Xeriscape on the side and back but I like a little lawn up front. And I water by hand.

Buy a bag of grass seed that is mostly clover and re seed it. Clover has longer and bigger roots than regular grass does and it will take hold real fast.
