What's scary is the 32K people evacuated from the COS area. Thats more than the town of windsor.

Amazing pic of Bear Peak. Thanks for posting it.

And the S seems to have hit the fan in CoS today.

    Bad day in Colorado...

It's like the whole state is on fire.

There was one off of Magnolia Rd. (Twin Sisters Area?) near Nederland today that they put out pretty quick. Thank God for these volunteer Firemen.

For everyone in the high country: get a plan together. Jeez, it's June still for crying out loud.

And I've had a bit of an awakening with the whole fire thing. In no way do I want my house to burn. I love it up here and have been here for 12+ years. However, if a devastating fire comes through...burn my house to the friggin ground.

I do not want to live in a place that looks like the moon, with nothing but blackened trees, barren landscape and the smell of smoke all around. I'd rather take my insurance $ to pay off my mortgage and, if anything is left over, make a new start somewhere else. MAKE SURE YOUR INSURANCE IS UP TO DATE WITH CURRENT VALUE. My neighbor (who's a fireman) stopped by today to remind me of this.

Coming to this realization has calmed my ass down and brought some serious thinking to mind, like what is REALLY important? After a HUGE scare a week or so ago, I have seriously revised my plan.

God Bless those in the burn areas.

I shot that photo from my front yard so I'm not really that close, but I can see it fairly easily.

Got home last night to get some stuff before staying at my mom's in Evergreen for the night and from my apartment (the hilltop at 6th and Simms) my view of the flatirons to the north was this:

That's Table Mtn to the left...
9News showed the pre-evac area of Boulder... I spotted about 13 or 14 lightning strikes on the drive down from Evergreen to Lakewood last night around 1700! We got a little rain yesterday, but damn, we really need that monsoon season to hit very very heard this year.

If anyone needs assistance this week (I'm going out of town on Sat though), I have a pickup available and my schedule is flexible at work.
