When you do let them know, You know a guy and wanted to get an idea where he (Me) was in relation to your approval time.
I called a guy i know in another branch, Hey would you check on some paperwork i sent in on jan x. He said the examiner told him, when we get to it, we get to it.Hurry up and wait.

The most frustrating thing about the NFA process to me is that you have to go through it every time. I could understand a longer wait on your first NFA item, after that it should really only be a felony check and you get your item.

About 5 years ago i was approved within 60 days, a follow up form was sent in withing the same time period as first one. After 70 days i called regarding status, the examiner said it's going to take awhile since we need to complete the BG check. I informed him i was approved on X date and here was the stamp #, as it was less than 60 days since approval #1. He said if that's the case, pulling up my info, you are approved!. Had that one back to me within the week.
They are kind of sketchy with the approval process.
The up side of the wait is to look at how many gun owners nationwide are buying NFA items. I think the NFA crowd is equal if not surpassed regular Class 1 guns.
    What a country.
