I've talked to some people from other countries about gun control. One way to do it effectively is to tax the crap out of ammo. It keeps it out of the hands of poor people. Wealthy people are usually not a threat to the powers that be. It's all about power, not safety.

As a regular citizen I shoot more then a 1000 rounds in 5 weeks, probably around that many in a couple of weeks. WTF. And besides, what did him having 6000 rounds in his apartment have to do with anything?

I think part of the " problem" is that folks think he was carrying 6000 rounds on him during the shooting... do they have any clue what 6000 rounds of ammo weighs? I'll use the .223 numbers since I have no clue what the exact ratio of rounds he had was.
1000 rounds of .223 in a shipping box ( just a plain old cardboard box here folks.. nothing special) is about 28 pounds. the Aurora shooter( yes I refuse to say his name) was NOT carrying 168 pounds of ammo on him. even if you call it 10 pounds of cardboard he was not carrying 158 pounds of ammo.
ok so what if he had all those rounds in 100 round drum magazines? well a loaded beta C 100 round drum mag for the ar-15 weighs about 4lbs 11oz loaded it would take 60 of them to hold 6000 rounds which works out to about 281lbs! I KNOW He was not carrying that!
what if he had all that ammo in a standard GI Issue 30 round mag ? well those come in at 1lb 2oz loaded .. it would take 200 of them to hold all the ammo.... that's about 225 lbs. Again he was not carrying THAT.

Hell I went there the other day and bought 80 rounds of that evil .40 hollow point stuff without showing an ID. I guess I look older then you.
I'm 37 ... but the cashier looked about 12... just doing her job I suppose.
when I bought 1000 rounds of .223 at a mom and pop gun store they didn't even ask for the ID .. just the cash.
Pretty soon our brass is going to have serial numbers.

you figure 500 a week in training, another 250 for the match, there is NO WAY the .gov will let you have that much ammo

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday that President Obama will "evaluate" a new bill that would ban online ammunition sales in the wake of the shooting massacre in Aurora, Colo. That left 12 dead and dozens more injured.
During the daily press briefing, Mr. Earnest was asked whether Mr. Obama supports the measure, which aims to end sales of unlimited amounts of ammunition on the Internet and other mail orders. The bill also would force ammunition dealers to report large sales of bullets and other munitions to law enforcement authoritiesAt first Mr. Earnest said he didn't know if Mr. Obama was aware of a bill sponsored by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Democrat from New Jersey, and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, a Democrat from New York. He later amended this remarks to say the White House would evaluate the measure.
"The president's view that have been relayed quite frequently over the last few days, you know, is that he believes in the Second Amendment of the Constitution, in the right to bear arms but he also believes that we should take robust steps within existing law to ensure that guns don't fall in the hands of criminals or others [who] shouldn't have them," he said, referring to gun-control comments Mr. Obama made during at speech at the National Urban League.
The reporter followed up by asking whether the president's push for enforcing existing law would prevent him from supporting the bill banning online munition sales.
"Well, like I said, I haven't seen the specific piece of legislation that has been offered up today. But as those — as that and other pieces of legislation make their way through the legislative process, you know, we'll consider — we'll evaluate them as they make their way through the process," he noted.
So he bought 6,000 rounds of ammunition, and, due to his weapons, he fired off, at the very most, 123.
AR-15 - 100rds
870 - 8rds
G20 - 15rds
And they feel the obvious move is to ban sales of ammo more than 1,000rds.
