The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory.- Col. Jeff Cooper
I'd just mention what class you were in and then nonchalantly ask him what class he was in. If he rattles it off right away, pretty easy to verify. If he stumbles about...well, you'll probably have your answer.

Don't wanna get shot by the police?

This is exactly why I don't socialize with my neighbors.
Are you sure your zipper wasn't down? Maybe he noticed it and was frightened.![]()
My guess too. He may not have wanted to make you feel uncomfortable. Some folks don't like to talk about stuff like that, others don't mind. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was trying not to offend you.
Maybe bring it up again and see where it goes. He may be a bullshitter, or he may have some interesting tales and you may have a lot in common. I don't think I'd condemn him right off the bat until you have more info.
My stepdaughter's boyfreind claims to have either been a SEAL or went through the training and washed out. I won't talk to the douchebag about it, but this is what he's told my grandson. The maggot doesn't fit the sterotype of that breed of man, as in he has no honor, no integrity, no patriotism, lives off .gov handouts, heroin addict, street corner beggar, thief, wifebeater, deadbeat dad, etc., etc. Not really SEAL material IMO.
AFA the "bar" SEALS, my wife and I saw this dude in a biker bar with a small SEAL patch on his cutoff, and I wouldn't doubt a thing he said, if he said anything about it at all. That man had the BIGGEST goddamn arms I've ever seen on a human, and his whole demeanor just reeked of a quiet, understated badass that could shit down your neck WITHOUT ripping your head off first. Didn't act like a badass, but you could tell he was not a man to trifle with. One of the biggest and most fit men I've ever seen. Very impressive.
Grab Sheer? That fall under don't ask, don't tell
I've run in to the I was XXX with XXXX and did XXX. I said to one guy, So you enlisted when you were14, considering that happened in 1974.
They are like gunophobs, easier to ignore then get the blood pressure up, dealing with them.

When I mentioned what class I would have been in, that was when the reaction happened. My wife was right there and didnt notice the reaction. It was subtle but enough that I could tell I caught him off guard and startled him and after thinking this over a few times, I feel he knows I caught him.
Ok, I’ve never been in the military but I have a huge amount of respect for those that have served. I may be completely off base but here are my thoughts.
I’ve never met anyone who volunteered that they were Special Operations or even mentioned it unless there was a deeper conversation going on with others in the group. If someone was a SEAL and liked to brag about it I doubt they would worry about making you feel uncomfortable. When you mentioned washing out I would also expect them to acknowledge how difficult BUD/S is and use that as a bonding opportunity. Sure they could be cool or an ass about it depending on their personality but it seems like something you’d want to talk about since so few people have any idea what you went through.
Just my thoughts.
