    Uh yeah, these days all games practically require some kind of account which is tied to the cd or game key. (Same reason few people for PC at least buy physicaly copies it's done all electronically.)

    So unless advertised as unopened very highly likely as something you couldn't get online with. I don't know xbox specifics for that game but even single player could be locked. (I kinda doubt it but you wouldnt want bf3 for single, it's primarily for multiplayer.)

    With XBox all you need is an Xbox live account, you can borrow my BF3 or your neighbors copy, or even buy one from a used game store and they'll all work on your XBox. There is no tie in to the actual game. But the downside is that you do need an internet and pay to play online.
