Sorry to hear about this, Bear. +1 for what Monky said.

Hindsight, but don't they have "slings" or something or a big lanyard? You know, to use when you get your Monette
As awesome as that would be, it will forever be "just a dream". There's no way I'd ever be able to afford it, even if I wasn't neck deep in debt. They are beautiful horns though. Y'all should check the pics and sound clips on the website:
http://www.monette.net/newsite/instrument_models.htm
Horns go from about $4K to over $30K depending on model, etc...
I know you guys probably don't have the ears to tell the difference between that and a regular mass production, but it is there. Man, they play themselves... So badly do I want a Prana XLT Bb trumpet in a silver finish and a Prana LT C in Raw brass, (gotta have a pair right? HAHAHAHA). They are on the cheaper side but still about $6-7K each. But I'm aware it'll always just be a dream.
Why the big differences in price? ($4k - 30K) Well, lots of reasons, first is simply the man hours required to hand make these beasts. On top of that, gold market prices always influence the final tally. Then, some of the features that you can use such as precious stones for the bell inlays or finger buttons or engravings if you want to make it personally yours. Also, the finishes, etc all play a role as well. It's truly an American made "custom" instrument. As far as the sound is concerned, when you add mass it helps to dampen the vibrations and darken the sound. That also adds to the price for the extra material, etc.
I knew an older gentleman back in TX when I was there for my undergrad. He was an instrument collector. He had a Monette. I got to play it several times on some great gigs. He liked my playing and what I did/stood for, etc and tried to give it me upon graduation as a "pay it forward" type thing, I just couldn't take it knowing the price, his collection, etc... Kick myself every day for that decision. Eh, hindsight is 20/20.
Anyways, enough complaining. My horn will be fixed by Friday, and all will be halfway well again... hopefully.
I'm seriously contemplating trying to find a way to market a tacticool sling for saxophones and other neck strap instruments.... lol....
You got me thinking now. You think guns are expensive, here's my wish list comparison:
Guns (customs w/mods):
G20 - $500
Noveske 14.5 - $2400
HD 12ga - $1200
Clays 12ga - $1000
.308 - $3000
.22LR rifle - $800
.22lr pistol - $400
Total - $9,300
Trumpets (just "standard horns" [everyday use] not extended [Eb, D, herald, etc]):
Schilke P5/4 piccolo trumpet - $4000
Eclipse Bb cornet, savannah finish - $4000
Taylor Flugehorn, rose brass - $5000
Monette Prana XLT Bb trumpet - $6000
Monette Prana LT C trumpet - $6000
Total - $25K
Course I'd love a Monette Prana 900 cornet instead of the Eclipse and Monette traditional flugel instead of the Taylor... but I'd have to win the lotto for that, lol. Ok, enough day dreaming, gotta go teach. Peace.

Yay, horn is in the shop. Should have her back by Friday morning in time for an afternoon gig. Whew.
You guys rock.... like literally, good rock too, not that muzak crap.
How has the horn been sounding for your other gigs you've been doing?
