split wood stock repair

I have a stock that is split on the right side about a foot long crack it looks like it has been repaired previously. and tips and tricks?

I am going to use a good slow set epoxy diluted down with acetone and inject it into the crack. Going to back let the inside of the stock so that i can get more in there. I am also going to reinforce and permanently set the recoil lug cross pin which is the reason the stock is splitting in the first place.

On working guns (not high dollar collector rifles) I've seen people fill them with wood glue and drive a brass screw through the stock. Then they dremmel off the head of the screw and polish off the brass stud to make it flush and shiny.

Just an idea.

If there are ends to the cracks in the middle of good wood, drill holes at the ends to relieve the stress concentrations. Better to err on the side of drilling past the crack than to leave the pointy end.

It is hard to tell where the crack stop as this has been repaired before.

and cstone this is definitely a working gun. I just got done cleaning out the crack on the back side with the dremel and it looks like i can drill holes like you said. Pretty close to perpendicular as well.

cutting on the wood it smells like old people houses.
