    Default Hey LEOs... Duty gun?

I was thinking about it yesterday as I was talking with a deputy friend of mine, he carries a Glock 17 9mm, and I was curious as to what all our LEOs on here carry as their duty pistol... If your department issues or has an approved list, okay, cool, what do you carry? Do you like it? If your department let's you pick dependent on caliber and what not, what did you pick?
Just curious, as I'm hoping to get on JCSO whenever their next hiring goes on. I plan on either carrying a Glock 17 or 22, or a Sig P229 9mm... unless there is something out there one of you guys would recommend instead.

Didn't you run a thread like this last year?

My agency issues Glock 23's in .40 SW. I hate Glocks and was given permission to carry my Sig P229 in .40 SW. I've carried this particular firearm with two different agencies and for nearly 15 years.

Him and about 4 other members...at least this time it is not in the General Discussion thread.

They picked the G23 over the G22?

I think I might have... but I don't think I asked "What do you carry and do you like it" or something to that effect... I'm more trying to figure out which I should be first and become expert at and use as my duty gun: G17, or P229 (I already own the G22, so if that's recommended then I'll just keep shooting that and get better at it).

Too funny... I was issued a Sig P228 (M11), before that a Beretta 92FS (M9). Couldn't stand the M9. Didn't like the M11 either, but I had no other options so I practiced with it regularly. I was shooting Glocks competitively at the same time and preferred them.

The OP question at it's roots doesn't really matter. Whatever pistol, it's practicing with it that matters more.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Since finances (or lack thereof) is one of your frequent complaints here, shouldn't you be more concerned with getting on with Jeffco before buying and trying to become an "expert" with whatever duty weapon you might be carrying?

On another note...fundamentals are fundamentals. Either you have them or you dont; you can shoot or you can't. Glock vs Sig doesn't matter much there other than difference in grip angle. Everything thing else is all personal preference and some presentation practice. I would worry about other skills you will need immediately before what pistol, you will be carrying.

Don't ask me. I hate Glocks. All of them are the same to me.

    1st issued S&W Model 15 4" carrying .38 Spl +P+
    2nd issued S&W Model 19 2.5" carrying .357 Mag
    3rd issued SIG P226 9mm for about a year
4th and current issue SIG P229 carrying .357 SIG

I liked them all. I own personal versions of each except for the P226 in 9mm.

I like the issued ammunition better than the guns

    Be safe.
