I doubt there are many of use here who would call someone with a real mental handicap a "retard". (Well, maybe Jim would. )


But there are probably many people here who would call you or me a "retard", Skully.

Oddly enough that word has never been in my vocabulary. My late uncle was so "developmentally disabled"he was put in a home @ 3yrs of age,, Known a few, see a few post here.

Yes some folks are offended, some are not, or even phased by words. Should we be "sensitive" to other people, Sure. HOWEVER THIS IS A FIREARMS / ADULT BOARD.
Get over it or petition the Mods to put a better auto block in place.

OT: While working in the dermagraphic industry a lady became vocal over some of the language her 3 & 5 yr old kids were subject to. We informed her the business was an Adult One and perhaps she should have exercised more thought before bringing her kids inside.

I've worked with a lot of models over the years and invariably, one of them will refer to someone within their own ethnic/racial group by a word that some would find offensive. They typically look at me, smile, and say "I can say that, but you can't". Yes, I know the history of why some groups seem to be able to call themselves a certain thing but my saying the same thing, not being a part of that group, is deemed unacceptable. Well, newsflash y'all: if group X can call themselves a derogatory term, don't think I can't learn from their example and use the same term.

Oddly, honkey and cracker are not referred to as the H-word and the C-word, yet other groups get their descriptions abbreviated with just a single letter. Why can't I be special too?!
