So why the anti-XD opinion there? I've the XD45 and I'd keep that over any Block.. er Glock in .45 and the M&P's are having production issues with random mag drops from the reports I've read. The 5906 wasn't/isn't a bad gun and I'd venture to say the M&P's aren't either.. I just don't support anything S&W does.. political stances and choices are something that a company should be held accountable for and I speak my opinion of their opinion about the Klinton Gun ban via my wallet.

If you want to punish the American owners for something the prior British ownership did, that's your call (Tomkins sold S&W to AZ based Safe-T-Hammer in 2001).

What does everyone have against he 5906's?

I carry the 4006 (same gun just in 40) everyday and I dont have any issues with it. It point and shoots good, never jams, and is pretty accurate. The only thing is that it is a tad heavy. But still a good gun none the less.

I'm with you, I have two 5906's one my dad bought when he retired from the state patrol, the other I got from a member of this board, neither one has ever failed me in any way.

    I have both a 9MM and 45 M&P

I have always been a diehard Glock/1911 guy but I am in love with this platform

I don't think I have ever been this "trendy" although the 9/40 has been out for a while

These things point VERY naturally and are a real joy to shoot

Unless you live in a state that requires the mag disconnect (can't make myself call it a safety) or integral lock there is no reason to have one...most all the ads I see are for the NO LOCK/MD versions

Speaking for myself, the refusal of Springfield to make their OEM parts avail to the public or gunsmiths, is enough for me to not want one of their models.

I can purchase every part necessary to repair or rebuild a Glock or Kahr and from what I hear for the S&W M&P, with the exception of the frame itself.

One of the wonderful things about a Glock, is that you can drop in the OEM replacement parts with no fitting required.

But I will not slam someone for wanting to purchase or carry an XD.

Honestly, I'm happy to hear that CSPD is modernizing their side arms, good for them, good for S&W. It sounds like S&W did some serious marketing and incentive selling to PD's across the country and it's paying off well. Hopefully the investment like any other that PD's make will pay off and it's what the officers want and need.

The 5906 just never felt right to me, a good friend and retired SP SGT liked his about as much as he liked his revolver. That says something.
