Question General Question about AR Pistol Lowers

I am building an AR Pistol but I want to install a collapsible stock instead of just having the buffer tube sticking out. Does anyone know if this is permissible.

Initially, I thought it was because it is still registered as a pistol, is stamped PISTOL on the magazine well, and I am not modifying it's function or status.

But after talking to a friend of mine he wasn't so sure. He told me he was pretty sure that installing a rifle stock, collapsible or not, wasn't allowed.

    Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks.

Installing a stock on a pistol lower is illegal. That would make it a SBR requiring a NFA Tax stamp.

That is not correct it is legal to install a stock on a pistol lower as long as the barrel is 16" or longer. If you put a stock on it just make sure you don't have a barrel less than 16".

You can always build a pistol lower into a rifle you just can't build a rifle lower into a pistol. Most people always buy pistol lowers that way they can build it into anything they want.
