Two pages, and the actual problem with the AR wasn't even explained....

Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

    Thanks again Bert!

There was a nut loose on the AR!

Well, ya see, I bought this sling attachment doodad that fits on the back of the lower receiver, and a spanner wrench to deal with the nut that holds the stock on. Took the stock off, put the doodad on, put the stock back on, tightened the nut, then cackled with glee at how easy it was! What I didn't realize was that there's this little pin and spring wheediddle that holds the big spring and plunger thingie in place, and removing the stock set that wheediddle free.

When I went to shoots my rifle, that little pin and spring wuz runnin' around loose inside of it, and had the works all jammed up. I removed the upper to have a looky, the big spring and plunger thingie jumped out like a dog dick, the little spring was mangled under the bolt, and the little pin thingie bounced off my knee as it dived for the gravel.

Like I said, I shouldn't be allowed to work on my guns if I can't even do something that a chimp could be trained to do.

Sorry if my knowledge hinders my ability to read that now... but I'm guessing you needed to remove the buttstock/buffer tube and attach a sling quick attach? I take it that the spring and plunger thingie was your buffer and buffer spring? There are plenty of us on here who could teach you the ways of the AR... Love the wording, that was highly entertaining by the way!

That's funny right there. I knew there was a reason I brought this up.

Correctamundo. Seemed simple to me, little did I know that one should remove the upper first so you could see what's going on, and that there's a little pin and spring that retains the buffer and buffer spring. The buttstock of course, screws in far enough to hold that little retainer wheediddle in place. But of course, since I didn't remove the upper and look things over like an intelligent primate should, I fucked it up. Imagine my red face as Bert was patiently showing me "here, see? If you screw the stock in far enough, this notch in it will align with this pin, and keep it held down it place so it doesn't get out, and the pin keeps the plunger from boinging out like a donkey hardon."

My brother always did say that I was "just like a bear cub. If you can't fuck it up, you'll shit on it." Guess he was right after all. This is why God gave us gunsmiths. I'm sure glad I took him my Winchester .44 to fluff & buff, I probably would have managed to make it go full-auto or something.
