The little dog thread made me think about this...we lost our old pup of almost 14 years about 3 weeks ago. We'd had him longer than our kids, and the wife (and I) took it hard. It was harder yet when I deployed a few days later. We have a Chocolate lab (my boy's big boy dog) and a black lab (my daughter's girl), but they sleep in the kid's rooms and ours slept in our room. Well, my wife's casual, joking comment a couple months ago that we ought to have a full set (Chocolate, black, and yellow) of labs has come full circle.
We found out about a little yellow girl who had been returned to her breeder, who then promptly dumped her with a rescue organization. She'd had a couple seizures; the vet who checked her out thinks that the breeder gave her too much of whatever medication she had been given, triggering the seizures. The lady who has her is the sister of a good friend of my wife, so it didn't take long for us to find out about her, and that was that. (Incidentally, she hasn't had any more seizures. Stupid breeders.)
So now, the wife will have a new little friend while I'm gone, and we will have a full set of Labradors.
