    I think its great they alert for missing person or emergency. I dont mind, Iwould like to see more.

    Mine did it, I don't have a smart phone, I'm not amused.

    If I want to know about an amber alert, I'll check the news. When I'm busy, indoors, working on a project, I'm quite likely not going to see a car that abducted someone - LEAVE ME ALONE!

    The FCC took a number of steps in facilitating the ability of consumers to receive emergency alerts through their wireless phones. In 2008, the Commission issued a series of orders adopting requirements for a Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), a system by which commercial mobile service (CMS) providers may transmit emergency alerts to their subscribers, if they choose to do so.
    If I remember right, you can opt out of everything but "presidential" alerts.

    Galaxy S3 under messaging then menu then settings you will get an option to turn it on and off
