No. The 1994 ban honestly was not that big a deal. Basically you could still buy an AK, it just had to have a "thumbhole" stock, or no flashhider, blah blah blah. The only big PITA was the mag restrictions, and those were easy enough to get around.
What did I learn from the last AWB?

Dont pay panic mode prices, its just a bad idea. I had three AR rifles at the time and they went from about $300-ish each valued to SOLD for $1200+ each.
Dont sell your firearms- last AWB I sold my SKS's, AR's, and some others because people were paying stupid prices. I could have easily replaced what I sold, but it took me a while to "get around to it". Wont do it again. I *MIGHT* sell of an AR or two, but I doubt it.
Stock up on ammo when it is priced right, and reload. Ammo is not going to go away until the zombies come, but during the first AWB a lot of the imported stuff got scarce for a while, and since it is usually the cheapest, it cost more to shoot. Stock up when the price is right, NOT when its at the peak. Difference today? There is a very real potential for ammo to be very heavily taxed, which will seriously effect things.
I think another huge change was the difference in the gun shows. Prior to the AWB, I would go down to the local gunshow and purchase an SKS, Mauser, whatever and just walk out with it. Now we have background checks, and in the near future further restrictions could unfold.

The most worrisome thing I see on the horizon? No one is bitching loudly about waiting for DAYS to get thier NCIC checks done. Just going along with it. This sends the wrong message and opens the door for the idiots out there to add waiting periods in addition to the background checks. IMHO, if they cannot process them fast enough, too bad, give the public what they paid for rather than having to wait the gubernment to catch up and finally do its job. This is a perfect moment to get the unconstitutional invasion of privacy removed.

They were expensive at first during the panic buying but settled down after the ban when the panic stopped and people realized there were millions of pre-ban ones available for purchase.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles. --Jeff Cooper"
