Default Need some help zeroing in new AR...

    Hey everyone,

Finally got my new RRA Entry Tactical last week and was wondering if anyone could help me get it zeroed?

I have never had to zero one before and not quite sure where to start, so a little guidance would be great.

I live a few miles from Cherry Creek but can meet wherever it is convenient.

Shoot me a pm. I have been planing to go to a rifle comp but mother nature seems to be uncooperative lately.

do you have any experience with an AR style rifle?

are we talking iron sights or optics? (I'm not familiar with that model)

I suggest you start out by reading the owners manual for your rifle and familiarise yourself with your new rifle.

Pulling rifles from the NG armory for ROTC FTX shooting blanks doesn't really count does it?

There is a 25 meter zero procedure in the TM 9-1005-319-10 operator's manual. I was just thinking it would be a good way to meet some of the shooters here and garner a bit of knowledge.

Just shooting iron sights for now. Need to get proficient with them before I decide on an optic.

The only advice I can offer is to sight in at 50 yds.and then your also zeroed for 200 yds. A bore sighter will have you on paper before you get to the range I've been told but I've never used one.It would also help if we knew if your using irons or optics. If you go to Cherry Creek there's a couple of good range officers there that would be glad to help you.Good Luck.

Where is the shoot on the 12th?

I am going to head to CC this weekend and zero it. I have really only zeroed scopes on hunting rifles before.

I was just looking for tips and tricks.

How many of you zero at 50 yards as opposed to 100?

I'll just have to come to some shoots.

Here is some good info on zeroing that i came across:

    http://groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR1...ngmethods.msnw

I still need to zero in my new baby as well. Reading through that gives me a good understanding of it, but i still wouldn't mind having someone more knowledgeable with me to guide me through it so i know it's done properly. I've been out two times with my rifle just for a function check/fun session but didn't have any good targets or a way to measure off 25meters while i was there. I'll probably be heading to the next shoot if i don't get it zeroed in before then just for that reason.

Let us know how it goes, and share any tips you pick up since we appear to be in the same boat. I'm very much the AR novice myself.
