The predators run in packs and have no fear of anything. the cops are crooked as shit. I could go in to detail ,however to loosely quote the AAA guide to LA, specifically NO.
DO NOT GO OUT ALONE AT NIGHT, TRAVEL IN GROUPS OF 2 OR MORE, DO NOT GO IN TO X AREAS AT ALL!!!

French Market for sure, one of the coolest things we did was take a walking tour of the Garden District, the history and architecture is literally unveiled block by block. Take the Trolley out there. Any of the Cemetarys are interesting. Grab a bag of Beignets and a cup of Coffee and walk up to the Mississippi River and chill. Luckily we found out that Bourbon street was a smelly tourist trap the first night and looked for other experiences. Anadrill gave you a great list.

i hate the french quarter , so i usually go to metairie . plenty of food and drink without all the stupid . but if you cant understand the local accent then stay in the touristy areas of new orleans proper.
