In many states, there is no background check for private sales at a gunshow. While we have that requirement in our state, it isn't across the board common. That is one of the things the Dems have identified as being dangerous and fits with their statistics.

I had this conversation with an old Army buddy of mine recently who lives in NH/MA and has guzzled the Dem ideology en total and believes that particular statistic is because of gunshows and private sales that need to be federally regulated.

I wonder what percent of felons and gangbangers buying guns are sales without background checks. A new law ought to stop that activity, right?

See my above reply. Out of their ass AND from Bloomberg / Soros funded studies they provide only the info they want to the media. No one has actually seen any documentated facts from Bloomberg, VPC, etc groups to date. ONLY what they release.

I've purchased 1 gun without a background check. 4 were given to me (bg check on purchaser) that's 5/ 39 for me and of those only 1 counts. So 2% of my purchases were without a bg check.

And how do you propose to accomplish/enforce background checks on private sales without registration of all firearms? Do you really want to have to go through a background check to legally gift a firearm to a family member? Do you want your heirs to have to submit to a check just so they can inherit what is rightfully theirs?

This is one of those measures that sounds good in theory but is pretty useless in practice unless we're willing to give up a lot. I for one am 100% opposed to any form of registration. I also have a problem having to ask permission from the govt to sell/gift my own private property.

And I'm pretty sure we didn't have background checks at a federal level until 1993? The system wasn't 100% online till 1998? What did background checks really accomplish? Was there a mass drop in gun violence after the system was put in place? I don't think much changed other than law-abiding citizens are forced to submit to yet another intrusion on their rights.

And **AGAIN** by definition, CRIMINALS don't follow laws. I'd be so bold as to say that there isn't a single law or a whole pile of laws our government could enact that would stop criminals from being criminals. The only thing all these proposed new laws will do is turn a bunch of us otherwise law abiding folks INTO criminals.
