If I would have stayed at ERAU and finished my Double major in Comp Sci And Aerospace I might of worked for them full time. 9/11 made me change directions and get my BS in Applied Networking & Sys Admin from RIT instead. And after what has happened at the Cape I am rather glad I was not around for that mess. Working on the Shuttle doing heat tile replacement was fun in that you got to say you worked on the shuttle. And being a VIP at the night launches was a blast. Sucks that the STS is no more, Watching one lift off from the Saturn V building and seeing the shock wave travel across the water was amazing.

My parents own an Environmental Remediation company in the DC area and back when I was running the special projects I did get to be part of some cool things. NASA does some cool things, but the Military programs at Aberdeen proving grounds are way more fun. Got to work on a pilot project retrofitting the P3 spy planes with new engines and hardware. Since they use asbestos for fire/heat protection I got to be part of it. Also the Concord that is sitting on the Intrepid Air & Space museum is the one that we Decommissioned, so I have a few cool souvenirs from that plane.

But the best part of the family company was that we have the contracts with the Goverment, FBI & Police in the area to deal with the lead at the ranges in MD & VA. So knowing the range officers has led to alot of free ammo and range time. Have had alot of fun at Fort AP Hill in VA. Its almost enough reason to want to move back to the DC area, but then I think of the Traffic and reality sets back in.

Wow, I would have loved to see a shuttle launch. Had the opportunity to see it in May 2010, but couldn't afford the plane ticket and didn't want to put it (and the entire trip) on the credit card. Ironically enough, while I was house/dog sitting for my friends who were watching the launch, I got a call from the observatory and they asked me to fly down for an interview. Naturally, after being unemployed for 1yr after graduation, I whipped out the credit card, flew down and spent 3 days here. Was basically given the job as a day staff engineer and fiber optics technician before I left and started a month later. It was one of those things that I really regret not going to Florida for that launch, but had I gone to see the launch, there is no way I could have made it for the interview and would have lost out on this opportunity.

Moving from Denver to a small mountain town of 700 outside of a town of 30k was very hard. There was nothing to do (other than hiking, biking, shooting, etc) and no where to meet people, the only bar in either of the two towns is Chiles. But after a couple of months I decided to try Match.com to see if I could meet people that way, and lo and behold, I met my Fiancee. Most perfect woman I could ever imagine and everyday I am lucky to have found her.

Since I have all this free time now, and because I spent the first 2yrs at the observatory as an engineer (designing and drafting parts for the telescope or other site operations), I decided to go back and get another degree. Tuition is paid for, books are paid for, and since I'm taking classes, I get 1mo off per year for "professional development" that I can use to focus on class work. Sure, I'm only taking 2 classes per semester and it will still take me 4-5yrs to finish the Mech Engr classes and get the degree, it gives me more time to focus hard on each class I take and do much better than I could if I was going full time.

There is alot of truth in the doing better when not doing the full time student thing. While we were building our New offices and warehouse I was just taking a few classes in MD to fill up core requirements before I transferred to RIT and it was alot easier to ace the class then when taking a full corse load and still working. If I would have stayed at RIT for my Masters in Info Sec & Cryptology I was not going to go at it full tit again, but rather keep working for my Family and do the 1 or 2 classes per quarter so I could enjoy the program rather than hate it and wish it was over.

I would be embarrassed to be that guy even before his ass got Tazed. Only thing better would be if someone had filmed it as well so you could see him getting tazed.
