I like the idea of engraving the trigger guard. I actually spoke to the ATF guy who will be handling my Form 1. He suggested I engrave the barrel(s), that way if I ever wanted to sell the receiver it wouldn't turn off a buyer because my info is marked on it. I'm going to ask him about the trigger guard...

I used the same guy shrapmetal did on my SBR. I would not engrave the the barrel, the only thing you are registering is the lower reciver.

TT a guy named Max in the Firearms Technical Branch today about engraving stuff. Basically reconfirming what we already know, it has to be on the main body of the receiver itself in an easy to see place (can't be on the trigger guard). I asked about using initials for my name, or parts of my name, and you can't do that either, it must be your full name. You can abbreviate city and state, using what the post office would acknowledge as a guideline.

I called them when I was engraving my first SBR and the guy at the ATF told me that I COULD abbreviate my first and last name, just not my last. I went the revocable trust route, so I also had to add the word "Trust" behind my last name (my trust's name is the same as my full name). So this might be where the abbreviations CAN be used. I talked to a fella named Anton.

Who knows though, it seems like you get a bunch of conflicting answers from these guys. Even in writing, some of their stuff doesn't always match up.

Indeed, seems like every person I speak with there tells me something different.

i didnt meen on the trigger gaurd itself, but on the frame next to where the trigger comes out of the reciever. that way its hard to see without flipping the gun over

They couldn't get through the coating after like 11 passes...aparently they tried a more agressive bit and had to stop because it started to chip. I'm going to take it to Colorado Laser Marking to see if they can fix it.
