Training in shit holes requires A) coordination with the host government (Yes. Even in a shit hole) B) Getting to said shit hole C)Keeping our personnel and gear secured the entire time we're in said shit hole. and D) Getting everyone back from said shit hole.

Don't get me wrong, The military uses the hell out of opportunities to train in shit holes. I did exercises in Africa that would NEVER fly in the US outside of someplace like 29 Palms or NTC.

It's a lot simpler logistically to train in the US.

Seriously this kind of exercise isn't new..

It happens. There were an awful lot of general and flag officers who retired suddenly and involuntarily in 1993 and 1994 due to intemperate remarks made in public about the Commander-in-Chief. I happened to generally agree their opinions but they were wrong to make them publicly and suffered the consequences -- same as McChrystal.

From Dale Comstock on Facebook -

The assumption by the President and liberals is that our soldiers would turn their guns on us. Bear in mind that most combat arms soldiers i.e,. Rangers, SF, Marines, 82nd Abn, Infantry are conservative in their political beliefs and I don't believe they will follow orders that are outside of the constitutional bounds and immoral. I think they will remain neutral or side with the right. I also think this is the reason Obama wants to integrate women into combat arms - to infuse liberal thought and philosophy through surrogates to dilute the conservative strain of men in combat arms. I am not suggesting all women are liberal, but in reality liberal women would be the ones most likely to join because they think they have something to prove. The liberals that suggest that we don't need guns because they are worthless against tanks need a lesson in unconventional warfare. This is what SF does - force multiplication through UW and guerrilla tactics that neutralize tanks and bring down conventional armies.
If you don't know who Dale is, badass probably describes him best but he's a former Delta operator and has a resume that would make everyone here feel like shit.

I really hate to rain on the parade here- but your common ranks (yes, most if not all SF I've met are strict in their pro-Constitutional stance and take that oath very seriously) from my experience, most didn't join to serve their country or anything like that. About 8 out of 10 guys I went through basic with stated that the only reason they joined the Army was for the GI Bill. That said, a lot of guys I serve in the 'Stan with wouldn't ever dream of following an order that meant turning their guns on their friends and neighbors... So it's a toss up... YMMV.

I gotta agree with this... A lot of the guys I serve with didn't join up because because they admire the stars and stripes. A lot of service members (unfortunately) sign up because it is a steady job in a time of uncertainty with guaranteed job security (as long as you don't get a DUI) and guaranteed raises (promotions). In many cases, it pays for your college, or for your kid's college and you get free healthcare. It's certainly a different world than 10, 20, or 50 years ago...

True story. The entitlement society is alive and well in the mil. To be fair however, most if not all recruiters use benefits to lure common people in. By common people I mean people who needed convincing reasons to join. Although the military is more political than little league baseball, I know lots of people who would shit on this or any administration before tearing apart the US.
