Look, if you are a contractor and you run out and get a commercial policy by saying that you are doing remodels, and the insurance company finds out that you are actually doing roofing, they will cancel your policy. It's the same thing. This business was engaged in something that was specifically restricted for that particular policy, so it was canceled within the 60 day cancel period. It's not that GEICO is anti-gun, it is that GEICO, like EVERY other insurance company has specific categories of risk, and this company was operating outside the category of risk to which this policy was restricted.

Another example: If you insure your personal Toyota Camry (or Ford Fusion for 10mm-man) with a personal policy, and the insurance company learns that you are using your vehicle for business activities, they can cancel your policy within the first 60 days. Does this mean the company is anti-business? No, it means that you were paying a certain amount of money for a certain amount of risk (personal use) and you were trying to be covered for a different amount of risk (business use) for the same price. Just having a magnetic sign on the side of your personal vehicle that says, "I do taxes" is enough to classify your vehicle for business use over personal use. It is a specific business decision made to keep prices down, and has nothing to do with some insurance company chump who is afraid of guns.

That's the problem I keep seeing these days- and no fault to you Sniper- people are going with the cheapest rates possible, not necessarily the best coverage, most reputable company or even adequate coverage. YMMV.

Insurance companies can't just go around canceling policies willy nilly. There are very specific circumstances in which a policy can be canceled. The one that most of you are more familiar with is non-payment.

Ronin, as an agent, you should know better.
I'm not sure why you're calling me out... what do you mean I should know better? Or are you saying I should know these circumstances better than most, to that yes, I do... and this seems like a bogus cancellation if in fact the vehicle is only used for commuting to work, and not business use or deliveries, otherwise, the insured lied and is being cancelled legitimately.

Agree. No need to panic and go on a big viral internet bashing parade until you know ALL THE FACTS, background, everything WITHIN CONTEXT, actual situation, etc.

THEN, if this guy really got dicked just for commuting in said vehicle to his place of employement, that's another story. I have a strong belief this is NOT the case however. They're not gonna cancel tens of thousands of auto policies just because the customer commutes to Smith&Wesson or BassPro for work, LOL!

Because of some unsubstantiated bullshit you read on the internet? I use GEICO for my auto/motor policies. They treat me very well.

Just because Snopes frequently DOES find fault with a bunch of Internet bullshit, doesn't mean they're biased to the left. I find equal amounts of left and right bullshit posted on the internet, neither side has a monopoly, lol. But I'm also open-minded, so if someone has proof they are biased, I'd love to read about it.

As for this Geico stuff, I'm not holding my breath, sounds like b.s. so far.
