I'd get a dog or dogs if I had the land for them to tear sh*t up.... right now, I'll just settle for vacuum cleaners getting killed and sh*t getting scratched up

My dog ate a bottle of advil liquigels about 6-8mo ago, nearly died and cost us about $1k in medical bills (ibuprofen is the most toxic drug to dogs and liquigels are very fast acting). For 6mo after that, she hasn't been able to control her bladder, would pee while sleeping and didn't know it. I cleaned our comforter, couch cushions, carpets, pillows, anything that she'd get on whether she was allowed to or not, at least once per day for months. Even putting her on meds for continence hasn't helped, though in the past 2mo its getting much less frequent, only once every week or so, and even then its not that bad.

She woke my Fiancee up at 4am today to ask to go outside. Which is very unusual because she has never asked to go outside before (or if she did she would just stare at you like she wanted to play but really she wanted to go pee).

But gosh darnit, I love that dog and wouldn't trade her for anything!!

That dog is one lucky kid. I love my cats but I wouldn't do half of that for them. The dogs on the other hand are worth every bit of our efforts.

And the truth comes out, starting a thread about how awesome cats are, but then flipflopping to saying dogs are worth the effort to keep them alive while your cats would be left in the cold. tsk tsk tsk

Hey now, they are actually great little cats. Not a hairball from either one. But I have to admit that, in my experience and excepting medical issues, once they start peeing in weird spots, it's hard to turn them back into good cats.

Not to mention, our dogs are bird dogs so they can actually help put food on the table.

Just kidding, we've got 2 dogs (one is mine, one is my Fiancee's) and a cat and both species have their perks.

And my dog is a cat dog. Rhodesian Ridgebacks were originally bred to hunt lions. I didn't think that adding her to a house with a cat would be a problem. But she too tries to put food on the table, in fact just today, she was rooting through the garbage and found a piece of foil from the grill (makin' shish kebobs) and tried to offer it to my Fiancee. That counts, right?

Lol, that's great! It's gotta count. It reminds me of our pup. She brought back a burrito wrapped in foil from the construction site behind our house.

I wanted a Rhodesian for a long time. Wound up with two mutts, sheppard/hound/possibly rhodesian in the female. Good dogs. The male (bubba) is more hound/sheppard. Poor doggy has lymphoma and is going through chemo right now. You think $1k is a lot, try $6500!

That's a nice bag of...... kitties btw.

Sorry about your pup, I hope the chemo takes care of him. Good on you, for standing by him!
