So Morse said today he was worried about the low voter turnout...which he said was due to not getting the mail in ballots out because 70% of people vote by mail in. He also said that was a briliant move to delay the mail ballots from getting sent with the goal of suppressing the vote. He is refering to the 3rd party lawsuit which gave them until 15 days before the election to get their names on the ballot.

So the scumbag Morse is actually accusing the 3rd party guys of suppressing the vote when all they did is make sure the proscess followed the very election law Morse campioned. It was a law he supported and now he is saying it was used to hurt the vote. What a tool.

Denver Post http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_24064007/colorado-recall-morse-says-turnout-lower-than-he

"Colorado College on Tuesday afternoon shuttled students to-and-from a downtown polling location so that they could cast ballots. A majority of the students were Democrats and voting against the recall.

"I've grown up in the age of Columbine and the Aurora theater shooting, and John Morse has stood up to the NRA," said Sachin Mathur, a freshman at Colorado College, who is a Democrat from Castle Rock. "He did what was right.""

Won't shift balance of power in state capitol as the Democrats have a large enough margin in the Senate. In fact, I think that Morgan Carroll is likely to end up as Senate President, and she sponsored the background check legislation.

For the Morse election - dont get all happy happy happy yet. Doesn't matter if he conceedes - that is not legally binding. If for some reason he gets a majority of the votes all he says is "The people have spoken..." and we are fucked.

There is only a couple of hundred vote difference right now -- but remember (and PREACH) this, they outspent us nearly 8:1, pulled every dirty trick they could, knowingly committed/encouraged voter fraud -- and the election is *this* close. No matter what we have made our voice known (not that the media will ever report that).

I do find it strangely odd that the vote count for "NO" keeps going up and the very very end, but the "YES" count has been fixed for the last 2 or 3 updates.

Its funny, all the "experts" said Giron would win and Morse would lose and it looks like Morse was closer than Giron. To me this is defacto proof of cheating.

see Democrats don't care about their female candidates (because in truth it is democrats that are racist/sexist/bigoted) so they're not going to go "above and beyond" for a female ... just look at how they fucked Hillary

Also they don't tend to cheat as much in "safe" districts ... which is why Obama won by a greater margin in some of the "neck and neck swing states" than in California.

So they concentrated their cheating in SD11 and still lost ... good

So without cheating I bet that means Morse really lost by 2000 votes

Just got home and boy am I tired. Spent about an hour after leaving the party pulling up some of our yard signs that were placed on public easements. I didn't want disappointed Morse-niks trashing them and wanted to take the time while I was still jazzed and awake to help keep our city clean.

Obviously, everyone at the victory party was jazzed. I was amazed at how close it was -- would figure we were getting 5-20 honks of support or thumbs-up for every boo/finger/tirade depending on time and location. Of course, many of those supporting us were out of the district but it's clear we didn't get votes from everyone who signed the petition and also clear Morse trucked in a hell of a lot of votes. Lots of support from folks in Denver, Littleton, Greeley, Fort Collins, Lamar, etc. and even out-of-staters from Ohio and other areas this past weekend. Thanks to all. As Rob Harris said, this was a grassroots group effort by a lot of political novices.

I was unable to duck an interview with the Denver Post today but was impressed with the photographer's/reporter's impartiality. Also talked with a reporter from the CS Indy ... which I normally hate (both the paper and talking to reporters) but she was cute and nice. I gotta say ... while I aim to NOT be this involved in politics ever again, it's awful nice getting honks, waves and thumbs-up from hot chicks driving by. Noticed in someone else's pictures that I've really gained weight in the six months since we started this puppy so I need to hit the streets and start working this fast food gut off.

Big congrats to Victor Head and the Pueblo team. They ran an outstanding campaign -- from the 98% accurate petitions (I don't think most of you guys can understand what a pain in the ass it is to gather and validate 12,000 signatures -- I am utterly amazed they only got 2% thrown out). Morse can cry all he wants, he knows he played dirty, he lied and he outspent us like crazy and HE STILL LOST!!!!!

I like the Ray Charles bit but I personally think two other songs are fitting:

Won't shift balance of power in state capitol as the Democrats have a large enough margin in the Senate. In fact, I think that Morgan Carroll is likely to end up as Senate President, and she sponsored the background check legislation.

But we've sent a message for Democrats. Follow through in 2014 is the hard part.

You are probably correct.. but on the good side....I can help vote her out. Boy would that feel good!!!

On a very solemn 9/11 morning, this is really incredible and heartwarming news. Congrats to the State and sincere thanks to the volunteers and contributors in both districts. With a better ground game, you beat the Billionaire's money. This marks a significant loss for Bloomberg, who is backpedaling after having his soda ban overturned.

In the face of millions of out-of-state money, huge pressure and influence from major anti's, you held off the attack and defended our state. Hats off. This victory will be studied by all in politics and proves something that I for one believed was nearly impossible...that we can honestly beat the liars, cheats and thugs that control the American left. Even when they create election laws that favor fraud and their BS, even when they spend millions, even when they bus hundreds in to rally their base, and especially when the 2nd is under attack in many other parts of this country. Read the article. This was what I'll remember from it:

Outside the depot, Giron organizers — particularly women — smoked cigarettes as they recounted the dramas of months of door-knocking, campaign calls and rallies to keep the Senator in office.

“He said to me, ‘You know how you know you’re a liberal woman? You’re ugly,” one canvasser described a nasty interaction with a pro-recall demonstrator.

This is the part that stood out to me

...may mark the beginning of a new “take no prisoners” political era in which politicians favoring gun control will fear bucking the powerful National Rifle Association and other big-money gun groups.

After everything, these people still think it was the NRA who did this. No matter what they are told, they will never believe this was a local grassroots recall and it was actually they who are the sheep that are being lead by major out-of-state interests. Those lefties are so brain dead.

This is also annoying me, whenever someone "blames" the defeat of an anti-gun liberal on "The NRA Boogyman" I yell at them THE NRA IS PEOPLE!

eff him. He could have veto'd the bills. We asked, begged, him to do exactly that. If he had veto'd the mag bill and signed all the others Morse & Giron would still be in office.

He said "31-41% of officers killed in the line of duty in the last decade were killed with magazines using more than 15 rounds"

First off, I believe that's a lie but even if its the truth I doubt that any of them were shot 16+ times and would have survived had they only been shot 15 (so the magazine capacity is not an issue)

Also none of them were killed with the magazines.

Yes, it would.

That doesn't mean you can't wave a waffle in each hand while chanting something about "Welcome to Roscoe's house of Chickenlooper and Waffles"

Or just have a flip flop in either hand chanting "Flip-Flop-Flip-Flip".

Funny that's not what he said to me in an email telling me how great gun control is and how it would have stopped the criminals that went on a rampage. Somehow?

Friend --

We have shown in Colorado that after great tragedy we can come together and make our schools, streets, and homes safer.

After Columbine, we closed a loophole that allowed dangerous people to purchase weapons at gun shows.

After the senseless shootings in Aurora last year, we studied the facts and talked to a wide range of people -- including Second Amendment advocates -- about how we could prevent gun violence. We passed legislation improving mental health services, modest restrictions on future sales of high capacity gun magazines, and universal background checks.

We were only able to pass the law because Democratic legislators had the courage to stand up to outside special interests -- but now those groups are trying to make an example of two of them by forcing them into a recall election.

Sign up to get involved in the campaign to defeat the recall, and let your friends and families know about the election on September 10th. (http://2012.democrats.org/page/m/4052a3ff/487c7d0/2af7e46a/74f36ed0/3062399484/VEsH/p/eyJKU1ZGVFVGSlRDVWwiOiJoZGwxM0Bxd2VzdC5uZXQiLCJKU1 ZhU1ZBbEpRPT0iOiI4MDIxOSJ9/)

Opponents of these laws told us that expanding background checks wouldn't keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. The facts show otherwise. Last year alone, more than 5,000 people failed background checks because of arrests or convictions for serious crimes, including 38 people for homicide, 133 for sexual assault, 420 with restraining orders, 618 for burglary, and 1,380 for felony assault.

Expanding background checks to cover all gun sales prevents violent criminals from acquiring guns. That means safer communities while also respecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Coloradans.

These recall elections cost a small fortune and do nothing to improve democracy or representative government. They are intended to intimidate and punish a select number of Democratic legislators for daring to vote their conscience -- for daring to do the right thing to make their communities safer.

This kind of politics is not good for Colorado or our country. Please consider helping the fight against this recall by getting involved today:

I was actually surprised that pos morse got as many no votes out there,
As someone else pointed out, Morse had a pool of idealistic young pups whose eyes are not yet open to bus from the CC campus to the polls. That's why it was so close. A couple more van loads and we would have lost.

Giron didn't have that luxury and her numbers are more representative of the general population.

When the wife and I voted I wore one of my Fal Fest shirts along with the wife. I could feel the guys eyes trying to burn a hole through my head and noticed the "look" as my ballot was placed into the machine. I waited and saw him looking at the wife as well.

After her ballot went in I looked him in the eye and said, "She's a democrat" and gave him a wink as we walked out.[Flower]

Hick is going to backslide as much as possible on any of the gun related crap he signed into law this year. He already did it, it's law, there is no going back now. Now all he has to do is say how he supports the second amendment and maybe get a photo op of him on a shooting range somewhere and your average bozo will think he is pro 2A and that is that. I am thinking there will not be any more gun laws passed between now and the next election though. Now it is all about trying to portray and image of being in the middle and not bring up any of that leftist crap that they pushed on the people of this state.

I'm reading and responding to long list of comments on CNN's story about the recall, and I came across this response on magazine capacity, which I think is just the best answer ever to the question on why we need magazines so big:

"Why do I need 15 rounds, or 10 rounds, or more than 7 rounds?
Because f--k you, that's why."

Thanks, BMG50.

WASHINGTON – Two Republicans were sworn in Thursday to replace the Colorado Senate Democrats they defeated in historic recalls over new gun restrictions.
Former Colorado Springs Councilman Bernie Herpin and retired Pueblo police officer George Rivera took the oath of office in front of a Senate packed with Republican lawmakers and other supporters in the gallery. They were greeted with loud cheers and applause.
Herpin said in his opening speech that he would "never forget the lesson of this summer."
"We serve at the pleasure of those we represent," he said.
The recalls last month marked the first time in state history legislators were ousted from office and reflected the continued debate over what gun restrictions, if any, are needed.
The wins boost the GOP's power in the Senate, narrowing the Democrats advantage in the chamber to an 18-17 margin. Democrats control the House 37-18.
Herpin replaces Sen. John Morse and Rivera replaces Sen. Angela Giron. The defeated Democrats remained firm over their support for the new gun laws. The limits on ammunition magazines and expanding background checks to private and online firearm sales were reactions to mass shootings at a suburban Denver movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school last year.
"I leave the legislature with no regrets," said Morse, who held the Democrats' top-ranking position in the chamber as Senate president. He noted that a neighborhood in his district has a high-rate of gun deaths, and that he "served families who expect, at a minimum, that we will prevent criminals from getting guns."
Giron said that her departure from office was not on her own terms, but added that she left "with my integrity intact and with the sure and certain knowledge that Colorado and Pueblo are safer with these modest gun safety laws."
Rivera's voice wavered as he thanked his family and then looked up to the gallery to acknowledge election volunteers. He said a friend had warned him not to get emotional.
"Can't help it," he said.
Democrats will have leadership elections in the coming days to select a new Senate President.
Although Democrats still control both legislative chambers, the slim margin in the Senate is sure to make it difficult for the party to continue the aggressive policy agenda Republicans criticized them for this year.
